Perfect the game, THEN add the guy who can build my +10 Flameshoes of Tackling...(this idea is quite possibly teh ghey-est of them all - this is a football sim, not WoW).

Actually it's a football MMORPG, so in a way it is kind of WoW. I think too many people forget that part. I like the magic stuff, it's fun and adds a different element to the game, although I wish it was even more RPG like with rare items, set items, etc. I'm a gamer geek though (that loves sports) so I know I'm probably in the minority.

Agreed, thus your minority just doubled instantly, amazing!

Agreed with this too, if he fixed all these elements then I'd probably drop a lot of money into the game and play it more actively, right now I can't possibly play it actively out of sheer principle for under-delivering to my standards.

FFS, this isn't about money. You still get the same amount of flex back when you retire the coach.

If anything it's anti-money because there are other ways Bort could use the retirement of players to bolster revenues more aggressively and he actually is incurring a huge opportunity cost by forgoing that option, which I see as almost like he's giving back to GLB customers by not taking this opportunity to capitalize for profits by roping people into more of a truly obligatory spending process. If I was an investor of this game I would show up to Bort's house and beat him in the head with a hammer for costing me a boost to my return.

I feel bad for Bort trying to pull this off. I do believe his intention was just to give guys a way to enjoy their favorite dot's post productivity as a player. Now it's taken on a life of it's own and newer players are demanding that coaches be a option for every one.

Basically... a simple, well intentioned idea turned into a monster

It does seem to have to potential to unbalance the game quite a bit more and open up another box full of exploits that we'll spend 2-3 seasons trying to get ironed out. I hope it goes smoothly because I think it could be a fantastic addition to the game if its done right.

At the very least I agree with Hazy that it should be knocked down to 4 coaches per team max. 10 is just absurd.

Well the people that were upset for losing their player wanted to keep their player alive in playing football, this method doesn't solve that particular problem at all. And you are right, there are LOTS of problems that I can foresee that will arise from this update, the stuff mentioned here in this thread is barely scratching the surface of problems with the design of this concept. Hopefully Bort tweaks things significantly before it becomes official later on cause it really needs some major overhauls, or it's just going to have an overall negative effect to the game more than a positive one just like many other updates/changes have done.

The best way to fight fires is with fire-retarding equipment, not flamethrowers, and Bort always seems to pack a flamethrower everywhere he goes and pulls the trigger in all activities that he participates in, and all that does is just set more stuff on fire and give him more work to battle against himself.

A competitive team will virutally have to have coaches who boost, though.

actually it's fire prevention.

Yes indeed, but if a fire already exists, I'm talking about it in sense of how do you deal with it now that it is here, and fire-retarding equipment is also applicable within the scope of prevention so I think that bails me out of having an incorrect analogy as well. Don't worry about the semantics of the analogy, it's just an analogy to make a point, I wasn't really attempting to go out of my way to design the most awe-inspiring analogy of all-time at that particular moment. I just read about flameshoes in the earlier post and wanted to stick with the fire theme.

the meta-game is going to get so much more fucked than ever before with 10 coaches. 4 is absolute max to where it won't completely fuck up the sim. even 4 is pushing it. 10 is going to be miserable. might not even be worth it to keep players in pro leagues for season 13-14 with how the sim will probably be because of all of this shit. probably will be more fun in lower levels. wish bort would let the sim slowly develop without completely screwing with weird extras
