You said you were only going to renew for one season. Smitty had good reason to trade you. At this time next season, he gets nothing for you. Better to get rid of you now and get a lot of return.

If he trades you then, teams know they have leverage on him because you publically said you wanted to go to another team. Therefore, they're not going to offer as much up for you because they know if they wait a couple weeks, your contract will expire and you'll become a free agent. Feel me?
