Question I have is why do you want first step on a HB?

because it works pretty good?

Both RBs on my team have it

Are you sure? I was told that First Step was nerfed on HB pitches and screens because Bort put a speed limit on the HB so that he had to wait for the ball.

I guess it doesn't really apply to a Power Back, but to Elusive Backs, my understanding was First Step was one of the shittier SA's?

I've got a combo and elusive back, both use it pretty well..it's not as beasty as say FS on a WR but it's pretty decent

How much FS do you have? And which HB? I would like to watch some of your replays and see when it fires. In particular I would like to see how it fires on pitches and screens.

I am going to try out reasonably high first step on my combo/bruiser back Jacobs down the line. It'll be a couple seasons though. He's got a nice piece with first step, I figure I'll jack it up to 11 (actually invest 6 ranks, the rest via equip) and see how it goes. If it sucks, I didn't lose much (12 sp in development).

it looks to work nice when they go out for a pass but don't notice much after they have the ball. Do you have links to any plays where it seems to fire after they already have the ball drunkencowboy?

Thing is, 5 first step isnt enough to be noticable. 7 is probably the bare minimum.

What am I expecting to see? I'm expecting my guy (when first step is high) to accelerate really quickly out of some broken tackles. power runners slow down when shedding a blocker.

well i'd say if your going to test it test it with aeq so you can move it to something else if it doesn't work

Unlikely

yeah, I'd say it works well for a receiving HB. I don't see it firing much otherwise for drunkencowboys hb's from the replays i watched.

I haven't broken many long runs due to running through the trash inside but he doesn't lose much speed at all sometimes, such as on this play

Looks to have a giddy-up in his step IMO

Not every missed tackles slows you down much if at all like the one above, especially diving tackles from what I've seen. It doesn't look like he got near to stopping at all or even slowed down, so why would you think he's re-stepping? I doubt he made a complete stop and first stepped so fast that you can't even see it.

First step doesn't work before the handoff and doesn't work after since you're not stopped anymore, and most broken tackles I see don't bring you to a complete stop. So I'm not gonna risk any points there until I see a power back actually stop and restart clearly.

edit: example in my back's last game, zero first step.

It could be good for a power back so he can re-accelerate after breaking a tackle. I thought about cranking it for my power back but decided I need to work on other areas before that.

he definately doesn't lose much speed which would lead me to believe that first step never kicks in. Definately a good build and something is keeping him from losing speed, but I would think you would see him slow down and then regain the speed if it was first step.

DC - what is his agi/speed?
