So this year, I will not be watching college ball on TV at all. I may still go watch my alma mater live to support the school, but that's it....

I don't disagree with you. The big problem is Title 9. And lets not forget the 12-15 hrs a week in school is free >

10-10 game at the end of the third quarter. A string of big turnovers and questionable penalty calls at your home in the 4th quarter does not a "senseless beating" make.

Typical Longhorn bullshit here Nick, but I expect nothing less from the self-annointed gods of football in Texas.

At least the Sooners have the balls to schedule a game at our place. Texas and Texas A&M are scared to death of us, and rightfully so.

I agree that the free education is a plus. But I also think that some of the idiots that play the game ruin school for others that would learn more with out them.

There should be a minor league system similar to baseball. If you want an education, go to college and play there. If you want to take the fast track, play minor league ball and get paid. No easy proposal, but coaching contracts are getting silly.

I have a masters in Sports Admin, and we discussed this a lot. I totally agree. Another point is when the college bookstore sells the QB's, RB's, etc jersey with his number on it. Does the athlete get the cash.... Hell no.

I think they should be allowed to take two classes a semester while playing, then upon completion of eligibility return whenever and attend school for as long as they would like. Masters/Doctoral. The school could also pay them some while in school.

However, if you like college football your only going to hurt yourself with the protest.

If there was a minor league, would anyone go watch it enough to generate any money?

Nope. Players would make less than they do now in college.

College works because it's about more than just the game. I wouldn't have any reason to be attached to a hypothetical minor league team. I'd rather just stick to my season tickets for the real NFL. I go to college games due to my attachment to the school and the pride that comes from that.

+1

Using the same logic, the exposure that these guys get by playing for the top schools sets them for life if they are an elite player. And if they're not the get a free eductation. Which is worth what? 80,000 over 4 years? Plus you get to put that you played at the top college football level.

Paying them would cost them their amateur status. Plus they get a free ride through school (which is pretty expensive). If you pay those on athletic scholarships for their performance, you must pay those on academic scholarships for their performance. Where does it end? Next thing you know, students will be "holding out for more money".
