These things happen in waves.

A few seasons ago powerbacks dominated. So we got a ton of VA's to stop power backs and the DPC allowed teams to stack the box.

The new trend in GLB is elusive backs because unlike powerbacks there are no defensive VA's that counteract what they do. So next season new VA's will probably come out and linebackers and defensive coordinators will shift their focus to a more balanced approach.

boo at this comment. you already said part of the solution earlier in your post, too (hmm...something about boxes...)

I love power backs. I made one after the nerf happened >_>

They may not get 30-40-50 yard plays every time they take the field, but they are still very effective.

honestly though....i dont expect my power back to break long runs. i just want him to be able to come in, be hard to tackle, wear out a defense and open things up for the speed guy. you dont see jamal lewis busting off huge runs or marion barber. they just tenderize the meat

they bust out for 20-30 yards pretty frequently. they don't tend to run for 80 tho

jamal in his heyday would routinely break off long runs

It's set in standard, like look at pro football. Majority of the best backs to ever play the game...were elusive.

You had your handful of great power backs, that really brought it.

But when people think greatest running back to ever play, they think...Barry Sanders, Walter Payton, Gayle Sayers. Mainly because they remember them slicing line and burning everyone in their path.

I do think there should be a median though. Not too extreme, because it's sort of the elusive backs job to fly for large gains and the power backs job to ground and pound that extra 4-5 yards for the TD.

brandon jacobs is the only real power back i can think of that isn't almost exclusively goal line

you never bort proofed your powerback:

15 in bruiser
15 in SYM
^^ THose two combined account for a +110% break tackle chance +/-4 yards from the LOS
5% break tackle chance upgraded to 17%
Power thru AEQ

That is bort proofing. and when they are unnerfed, that back will dominate....thus nerfing again.

but they don't get consistent yards like a power back (good for at least 3.5 yards 90% of the time)

Power back's not dead. Personally I like combo.
I also think Bo Jackson>Barry Sanders, Walter Payton and Gale Sayers

Who the hell thinks Gayle Sayers was the best back ever?

Powerbacks are just fine--now they're realistic. They may not average 20 yards a carry, but a good powerback will always get 2-3 yards or so.

The greatest RB of all time was a power back. Jim Brown. Walter Payton was more power than elusive. Earl Campbell, Larry Csonka, John Riggins, etc. are HOF power backs.
