I think you're assuming there's a "correct way" to build a HB, and that combo is how you do it. I'm not going to debate that, I have a combo back and I like him.
Regardless, for a power back, strength is your primary attribute, if not carrying. Speed is secondary. So whether or not you had success with your combo back doesn't change that power backs build differently.
For a power back, 90+ strength isn't out of the question. For a combo back, it probably is because you have to look at every stat as important.

There are many ways to build a HB in this game, and a lot of them are junk. I think it's very ignorant to think that a HB must have 90+ strength or carry to be a "powerback."

Show me where I said *or even implied "must" and your claim is warranted.

Show me where I implied that you implied it.

Regardless, semantics aside, you said that strength/carrying are you primary attributes for a powerback. I would certainly hope that your primary attribute(s) are over 90. It would be fair to say that if you had multiple attributes that were close in value that you would define that HB as a combo build.

Ok wow didn't know this thread would have this many post. I am making a pure powerback who will also one day be sorta fast. I slowbuilt him and I still am saving points while intensly training speed and agility. Once those hit 35 each I will spend all my points into speed. Then ask I get points I will put them into agility till they reach 70 each at least. I will train carryingg next to 30 while gathering all those points to agility. Once that is done carrying should be around 35 and I will get that to 55 or 60. Stamina is already 30 and Vision I will train in my 40s and 50s maybe spending points on that and confidence. I have a advanced piece of equipment I am working on right now that is +1 Power Through. These are the stats I plan on having by the end of my career with all my level up points.

Around:
Strength: 130
Speed and AGility: 75
Carrying: 60
Stamina:50
Vision and Confidence: 35/40
Cover up: 6
Stiff Arm and Lower Shoulder: 11
Power Through: 16 or 17
Dive for Yardage: 13 or 14 (I have a piece for this as well)
That is all with equipment on...

I think I can reach these.

You won't hit those numbers in your career.

Also, even if you did, you could do much better with a different array of attributes.

Scrap Dive 4 Yardage (and don't put any points into it), leave agility at the first cap, and you may have a shot at hitting the rest of those numbers.

A back whose primary method of gaining yards is by breaking tackles, not being elusive or speedy.
In order to do that in GLB you need high strength and carrying.

Have you actually built any successful high-level HB's or are you just recycling the powerback build cliché? What your suggesting is wildly successful in lower leagues, but it will get smoked in the PROs.

I have had a balanced back before. He was retired in season 7 after coming off a 6000 yard season. He was level 39. He was successful. Also, I think I know what I am doing, he will be very successful in the Pro's becuase no one will have the strength I do.

Notice who I quoted? It wasn't you.

I don't honestly care what you do, it's your money, but I am interested to see if your HB will have success. My gut tells me that he'll never be productive in a PRO league, but I'd love for you to prove me wrong. At least you're cutting a new path, it's commendable to be fearless of failure.

no? like getting str to 130 with gear at level 56 is 38.

130 -38 is 92 base str.

I know centers and punters that get natural gains of 1, and don't have 92 base str by 56.

It would take spending sp on nothing but str from level 1 to 28 to get 92 base str by 56. That is already half your plays sp in that time frame.

Cant be done. Cant even come close.
