We didn't hit well last year because of Leyland's jacked up lineup and the front office's failure to put the right men on the roster for the bottom spots. It was good, but way short of its potential, and we didn't have room to lose on that potential based upon our weaknesses in the pitching game.

Our lineup was mismanaged on multiple levels. Serious flaws in baseball logic were PART of the reason of an overall offensive inefficiency. And our pitching was terrible, even if our hitting was better we couldn't have done too much, but we could have looked more respectable at least.

bet on baseball? Baseball's only good to fill time between football seasons. As soon as football season starts I'll stop watching baseball completely.
And a bet between the Rangers and Tigers? That's like betting on the special olympics

nah, actually I can't bet against Detroit. I was born in Michigan and actually have a Detroit Tiger cap. Prob my 2nd favorite American League team.

TSE....makes you pine for the days of Whitaker and Trammell up the middle turning the double play.

watching today's game the defense has saved 2-3 hits and at least 1 run while those "terrible hitters" are all hitting pretty well

You can say that on any given day that an exception to the rule might occur, one game means nothing, it's about the statistical odds for any random game and for the overall long-term of the season. You can't use a one-time good hitting day by a bad hitter to justify having him on the roster, you have to play the numbers and the averages and the odds and probabilities. That's how you win at baseball, it's all in the math.

Renteria easily, but I prefer Santiago to Renteria because he's cheaper and more efficient of a player. Santiago is the best hitter of them all by a fair margin.
Or somebody else, there were plenty of options to give consideration to during the offseason.
