It seems dumb to ever kick it straight, then. Too bad I can't set it to coffin corner despite the distance every time.
you probably can't because it would be a huge exploit to just do it every single play. Also, I'm not sure what would happen if you coffin'd it from your own 30; maybe the KR comes in on a diagonal and catches it anyway.

That's what I mean, it shouldn't be an exploit, it just shouldn't be so good compared to kicking "deep."
well the point is that coffin corner punts go the same length but then bounce; i think if coffin corner punts were tried from your own 30, the KR would run up and get it ... maybe there should be logic, decided on by anyone on the PR depth chart, saying "when do you want to receive a punt" and you could say any number from 20 to 0. If the ball is catchable at a yardage point greater than the number you choose, you run and catch it. otherwise, you let it go.

that would solve the problem. coffin corner punts are only good because the KR isnt returning them; what happens when he/she does start to return them!?

I've had returners return coffin corner punts before. Here's a couple that otherwise would have been touchbacks.

nice and it proves my point too; on the second punt, it was like a 33 yard kick but bounced so it looks bigger. the first one was a bomb though, i bet SA trigger?
