All my 8 EQ points are in strength, so it's at 69 natural.

Haven't trained anything but strength/blocking/agility so far, and only agility to do blocking/agility intense training. Probably going agility/vision for a while until vision is ready to soft cap. After that, stamina/speed. Then confidence/stamina.

Next SPs will probably go into blocking to second cap, then vision to first cap. After that, haven't decided on third cap for blocking or agility first cap.

Good start, but consider Vision before Agility to take advantage of level gains for Vision being a major.

Here's my version. I pretty much (indavertantly) followed the formula the Jack posted, I'm on the get speed and agility to 48 phase right now (then will 68 blocking, then revisit speed/agility....training conf/stamina the whole time). Then will move on to SAs (although I may pick at them here and there). Natural strength of 75 so I got away from the recipe a hair and all equipment is in strength. He was stuck on a team with an inactive owener for the first 8 games so he was playing ST only. Still has 66 pancakes (had 144 last season)

Just moved him over to my team in USA A so we'll see how he does. We were using a OT at TE mauler role with great success but I'd rather that OT be in for all plays (being spelled aside) than just running plays only. Plus the OOP penalty

Edit: Jack posted the recipe, not the OP

my blocking TE does pretty well and is a blast. I've had good comments from managers and HBs.

It's not too tough to build, just remember that your assignment is usually LDE (so you need to be a good blocker), but also downfield blocking vs. LBs and SS, so you need to be faster than a regular lineman.

I'd say the new pitch plays and screens make the downfield/outside blocking power of a blocking TE really nice.

out of position penalties are going to hurt an O-lineman in the TE position.

some fast examples, not really the best but I looked for a couple mins only:

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=545965&pbp_id=2258658
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=545965&pbp_id=2259644

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=476844&pbp_id=15156320

all of those are screen-types, but I mean picking up an LOLB or MLB is very common also. I don't see many OTs catching an FS down field and still able to pick up an LDE.

I've got a pretty successful blocking TE, JDR's build guide is spot on, just build like he's a more mobile OT. I've used OT's at TE for blocking and a TE is FAR superior to a OL playing OOP. VA's should be Outside Blocker (AWESOME), Downfield Blocker, and Showboat Blocker. I was pretty high on showboat but outside blocker is far and away the best VA for a blocking TE.

my blocking TE does pretty well. He has more SPD and AGI than most of the builds in here though

edit - I have never trained/added points to catching. He rolled like a 21 or 22 catching rating

My slow building level 28 blocking TE just finished the season with over 300 pancakes and was team leader in that category...

Attributes

Physical Attributes
Strength - 92.65
Speed - 49.28
Agility - 50.28
Jumping - 8
Stamina - 24.28
Vision - 28.65
Confidence - 20.28

Football Skills
Blocking - 66.65
Catching - 24.65
Tackling - 14.28
Throwing - 8
Carrying - 15.28
Kicking - 8
Punting - 8

Special Abilities

Blocking Abilities
Run Block - 1
Pass Block - 1
Hands - 1
Get Low - 1
Pancake - 1

Receiving Abilities
Route Running - 0
Sticky Hands - 0
Quick Cut - 0
Cover Up - 0
Lower the Shoulder - 0

Veteran Abilities
Downfield Blocker - 4
Outside Blocker - 3

His training schedule so far has been...

Sled Drills (blocking, strength) until Strength = 60
Pass Blocking (blocking, agility) until Blocking = 60
Wind Sprints (speed, agility) until Agility = 48
Hill Sprints (speed, stamina) until Speed = 48
Distance Run (confidence, stamina) until Stamina = 40

Stamina will reach 40 with boosts early next season. Now he is working on...

Carrying Drills (carrying, confidence) until Confidence = 48
Precision Catching Drill (catching, carrying) until Carrying = 35
Possession Catching Drills (catching, jumping) until Catching = 48
Coverage Drills (jumping, vision) until Jumping = 40 and Vision = 35

All of his gear is put into Strength and his custom gear adds +1 to the Blocking tree.

This build has served me well and he will eventually be a stud all-around TE. Right now he is a blocking machine.

Use a TE, and maybe use this as a guideline (ONLY if slow building. It's very hard to "normal build" a blocking TE with the intent of always being good, as you would have to invest in speed/agility early as opposed to devoting all your early SP to getting the major attributes high)-
1) 1st cap strength
2) 1st cap blocking
3) 1st cap vision - never touch vision again.

Those are the major attributes (0.5 gain on level-ups) you'll be using, catching being the irrelevant 4th major attribute.
Alternate your training between intense speed/agility and intense agility/stamina. Agility will be the first minor attribute you'll want to cap, but still, not until strength and blocking are at their final destinations.

4) 2nd cap strength
5) 2nd cap blocking
6) 3rd cap strength
6b) (optional) 3rd cap blocking - You could put 6 into the Run Block SA as a substitute for this, IMO. I took my TE's blocking to the 3rd cap just for the hell of it, figuring I can add some Run Block SA to it later on.

Stop at 3rd capped strength. I know you might want to add more since for the purpose of the position it makes sense to try to get quick pancakes, but in reality that's nearly impossible. A single play usually consists of your TE engaging the LDE, and then moving on to block one more defender, and that's it. RARELY can you hope to pancake that 2nd defender so quickly that you can engage another defender after that by the time the HB has reached your location.

Whatever agility is at at this point, start adding points to it.

7) 1st cap agility - train on intense speed/stamina
8) 1st cap speed - train on intense stamina/confidence

You should be around level 32 right now, give or take a level. If you want to make your player competitive now, I would go ahead and have two pieces of equipment in speed and two pieces of equipment in agility, making each about 59-60. The CE can stay in strength, but you really will need equip in speed/agility as a crutch, only until you raise them each to the second cap. Leaving them at the 1st cap results in pretty poor performance - you'll be sluggish, and more often than not you just won't get to the next block in time.

9) 2nd cap agility (or speed) - keep training stamina/confidence, move equipment out of the thing you're 2nd capping and into Strength
10) 2nd cap speed (or agility) - keep training stamina/confidence, move equipment out of the thing you're 2nd capping and into Strength.

By level 36 (next level for me) I'll have step 9 done; speed will be second capped and I'll begin 2nd capping agility. Tinker with equipment and see what works best - I am loving +15 in agility, I like the way 65 agility and 58 speed makes me move. I might leave a piece of equipment in agility after I second cap it just because it's working so great right now.

This is a solid plan. I am underway with my Blocking TE Austrian Oak and he has been quite an asset for his teams. No glory though, so don't expect to get an mvp award or anything. I like doing this build, personally. Here's my build:

LVL 26
Strength: 84
Spd: 46
Agi: 43
Jmp: 8
Sta: 24
Vis: 47
Cnf: 16

Blk: 64
Tkl: 14
Thr: 8
Ctch: 25
Cry: 14
Kick: 8
Pnt: 8

VA: Workout Warrior 5 which adds 1.02 to str. Currently training Sta and Cnf.

I've got two pieces. One Run Block and one Pancake.

My guy a few levels later. Haven't bought any CE yet, since he's just in a casual league right now. That'll get the strength up into the 90s, and with leveling will get to 100 eventually. Still have 50 shopping tokens left, but I figure there's no reason to try yet. Training speed/agility right now. Vision soft-capped with next boost, and then to agility.

Two lead block pieces is pretty nice. Add to that outside blocker and you've got a recipe for awesome.
