Yeah, Pats build looks good. 68,68,68 speed agility catching is the sweet spot.

Wait, I am working to up jumping to 60, since he is 6 foot 4, it could help him if he gets jumping to that point.

I'm not sold on jumping, especially past the soft cap.

Neither am i. But the problem is that no one seems to know how exactly a jump ball is calculated. If a WR has 4 times the catching and jumping than a CB has and they are in the same position how many times out of ten will the WR make the catch. My thought is that if you can make a guy who wins the jumpball 95% of the time and has the athleticism to make at least a little seperation - would he not be potentially a deadly weapon, that few if any CB's are built to counter?

Yeah, it's all hypothetical at this point. I would go with improving catching to win those balls and when it gets to the point that the ROI for points in catching gets to be worthless, come back and start working on jumping, but I wouldn't touch jumping with SPs until then.

There is a CB built to counter it:

I have no idea what his build is like now, but I do know that he had 60+ jumping in season 4 and he's basically been an INT machine since then.

Okay, few then. I have not seen many with sufficient jumping/catching/vision to counter such a player..

To this day i have seen almost only speed based WRs. There are variations of them, yes - but everybody maxes out speed always.

CB's have seen this of course, and the effective CB's all have very high speed, and only mediocre attributes otherwise (i havent seen any with anything else even med-capped).

So how, i aks myself, do i exploit this? The answer must be some kind of possesion build. I have seen a high catching build being quite succesful, are there any other examples. How low can you have speed?

Go!

Speed can be as low as softcapped, but it comes with issues at that low, mostly in terms of play development time leading to sacks, and an increase in PDs as even the worst of CBs can get on top of you. An ideal speed for slow possession WR seems to be around 60, with at least 60 agility to support it. This gives you SP to spend elsewhere while still giving you enough short distance maneuverability that the CBs aren't crawling down your jersey at the catch.

Personal taste for a possession WR is 60 speed, 75 agility, greater than 50 jumping/catching, greater than 40 vision/strength/confidence, as it gives you a big advantage in terms of the stats involved in the catching rolls. Others prefer to sacrifice some of those tertiary stats for greater seperation options looking to beat the CBs more, both work relatively well though.

My WR is at 80%+ in terms of making receptions this season if that helps with your decision, for 55 catches in 6 games. It isn't heavy yardage by any means but it's constant first downs.

Just one question, does strength matter (noticeably!) in catching rolls? I was not aware of this.

If you have a slower WR, who has to deal with contested catches, yes you'll notice a difference between say 20 and 40 strength in terms of the number of PDs you give up.

I actually have a WR with about 50/50 speed and agility and he has been very solid for us so far

He's had 0 drops and only 1 PD so far this season.

Pretty good build...
IMO every team needs a true possession guy for 3rd and long, and builds like these seems to make the plays when needed.

Dude has a 56.38 jumping. I'm thinking that he's getting more shots at the ball later in the game with that 46.76 Stamina though. Gotta be the combo on his Jumping/Vision/Catching that's helping him out more I'd reckon.
