Actually, the roughing the passer penalty on Troy yesterday says all you need to know about today's NFL. That is a pure joke, whether the league calls things consistently or not. Horrendous.

Yeah .. I'm a homer too!

Go Stillers!

I respected Polamalu until he said the NFL was becoming a pansy game. But perhaps he was just making a public introspection, and in that case I respect him even moreso. I may need some guidance on this

I believe he said that b/c of the punk ass roughing the passer penalty he got b/c his hands were near Rivers' head. He didn't even hit him hard enough for his head to move. Was a pansy type call if you ask me. I say the QB should have to be able to take a hit like the rest of the guys.

It's just not consistent though. He shouldn't cry about Larry Johnson dragging him down by him pompom, because being upset about that is a pansy move as well. So Polamalu could be the typical human hypocrite, or he could be just making a statement about how complex our society is. I'm not sure, do you know?

he didnt complain about that.

that sort of contact wouldnt even be an issue in baseball. if your hand touches anywhere from the shoulder up, its a penalty.

Pits is the lone team in the playoffs that isn't intimated by Balt and their D. Flacco has a nice deep ball - that won't win the game and they need Flacco to win the game for them. Not even mentioned the injuries - Pit is as healthy as Week 1 of the season. Ravens secondary is a mess - PA pass on the first play. They've sold the run 2 weeks in a row ..

Think it's close in the 1st and Steelers impose their will in the 2nd. Love the match-up much more than the Flaming Thumbtacks alternative.

Not even sure why I'm continuing this

"No, it didn't hurt," Polamalu said in the aftermath. "It felt good."

He did concede that he had never been dragged down by his hair before.

"No, but if I got the ball in my hands, they can tackle me all day like that," Polamalu said. "We had a lot of fun out there."

Does it matter if they sell the run when they can't run on the ravens and haven't been able to for years?

That's meaningless. He turned to the ref after he was tackled and asked for a penalty.

A couple of fluke plays? Nice spin.

no spin. i'm not a chargers fan, i couldn't care less that they lost. i saw 2 plays that really swung the game in favor of the steelers. hell, the chargers took the lead with 1:52 left in the second quarter and then didn't get the ball back for any meaningful time until 12:52 in the 4th quarter because of 2 crazy plays. thats 19 minutes on the game clock but 74 minutes of real time. those 2 plays killed the momentum the chargers had built and absolutely exhausted the san diego defense.

. Seriously, nobody expects INTs like that. There is no way u were on ur couch yelling at the d line to knock the ball straight up in the air so that a LB could pick it off. That was the kind of play that happens a couple of times a month across the entire NFL.

Umm... it happens often enough that defenders usually practice tip drills. The D-line is trained to get their hands up and knock the ball up, and the LBs and CBs are trained to get under it and catch it. It's a whole lot more then just luck.

you're right it's not all rare. as a matter of fact, phillip rivers had 6 passes blocked/batted down at the line scrimmage all season long and he dropped back to pass 478 times. thats 1 out of every 80 passes which was good enough for 3rd best in the NFL behind Tony Romo and Matt Ryan. the fact is, offensive linemen rarely knock down passes at the line of scrimmage so the fact the this pass not only got batted into the air by a lineman but was picked off by a LB (Foote?) makes that an incredible play and fairly rare.

And u probably haven't ever seen a kick land on a blockers head like that. Balls bounce off somebodies leg or the kick returner screws up but for it land on some dudes head, come on u gotta admitt that's kind of a fluke.

No, that's a mistake by the punt returner. They practice that in drills, too. A team is only as good as it's weakest link.

Neither of those were "flukes."

and yeah, teams practice this stuff all the time, its special teams i know. but what exactly was the KR supposed to do when the punt lands 7yds short of him and on his blockers head? i'm sure that sproles was supposed to yell at him to get away that the punt was short, but i can also understand where it would be hard to hear 1 man's voice when there are 70,000 screaming fans in a building and you're focused on not letting the guy in front of you kill your teammate that's supposed to be catching the punt.

like i said before, i think that the steelers would probably have won the game without those 2 plays because they were starting to win the battle in the trenches. however, i also think that without those 2 plays Phillip Rivers has the chance to keep the game close and give the chargers a chance to win. the guy had allready passed for 2 TDs at that point and had another to end the game in junk time. ok, i'm done arguing this point. the steelers won and have a good chance to beat the ravens this weekend. it should be a good game.

He was calling it a Pansy game due to all the fines that have been thrown out will all the helmet to helmet plays.

the NFL has gotten kinda crazy about protecting the QB. i can understand the helmet to the head and deliberately hitting at the knees but a lot of the roughing the passer calls are weak. its football, people get hit and that means the QB. if the NFL wants to make a hit like what rivers took where his head didn't even move, thats fine. make that a 5yd penalty instead of a 15 yarder.
