Remove the TE1/TE2 capability, or let the defense change their tactics based on which TE is in the game (as they would in real life).

I'm not buying the as they would in real life bit either, unless the offense would have a mechanism to counter defensive player changes, like they do in real life when they get a mis-match (such as the no-huddle).
the offense doesnt have a mechanism to counter DP changes in real life; the offense can't substitute after breaking the huddle, while the defense can.

Unrealistic in what way? Most NFL teams have blocking TEs and catching TEs.

Really? The receiving TE still needs to be able to block, and the blocking TE to catch - otherwise the defense would know the playcall every time.

In GLB you'd want Randy Moss and Orlando Pace as your TEs rather than guys like Gonzalez or Witten.

Are there some TEs that are really good blockers and receivers? Sure. But most teams have TEs that pretty much never catch the ball and are used 100% for blocking purposes.

It's quite clear there needs to be better tools for defenses to match-up to offensive personnel. The only interesting question is what gets implemented.

And for the record, plenty of teams use blocking TEs on passing downs. You know, to help pass block.

I have a feeling we will see something new for the defense next season.

Yea, these are all problems with the same root - the defense can't adjust to personnel. However, I think it is worse for TEs because it is a naturally balanced position which in this game has been turned into a placeholder for WRs and OTs.

Minuscule in comparison to the grand scheme of things.

Yes really. When was the last time you heard a good defensive player pay homage to the blocking skills of some of today's receiving first TE's in football? You don't because some block little better than putting a body in the way of the defender, while some of the blocking TE's make the blooper reel when they try and hold onto one of those "trick" goal line plays where they throw it to the blocking TE and he bobbles the thing.

That guy on the Cowboys, Witten, seems to block and catch pretty well. So there is 1 at least.

YES

And how would tactics identify the differences in the TEs? And what if the offense called a passing play using their blocking TE?
