Thanks, I for some reason quote Newspeak quite a bit for a laugh; really winds some people up for some reason. That book made quite an impact on me for seom reason though.

Because its premise seems more realistic and possible than ever, perhaps?

Quite possibly. It seems to be drawing ever nearer, and the fact I live near London and I can almost imagine that happening, it brings home the problems or non-problems totalitarianism brings to society, depending on hwo you know under its reign.

On a lighter note, I have tickets for the London NFL game which makes me happy indeed.

Well, the entire basis of Oceania, Eurasia and the other Super States was a ultra conservative backlash to liberal "governing" that had run rampant and the masses called for extreme intervention... let's see..
-financial calls for massive intervention: check.
-repeated social clamor for liberal intervention: check.
-military calls for intervention: it happened pretty easily 5 years ago so the precedent is set, so check.
-Government being given the powers to legally supercede the rights of citizens when deemed neccessary: check.
-Technology to monitor and track citizens 24/7: (just need to complete the infrastructure to monitor the internet, but by & large) check
-The social climate to label people as "traitors" for disagreeing with "party policy": check
-Uncurable sexually transmitted disease that will allow you to label sex as evil: check
-Rewriting history on a regular basis to suit your needs: check
-Ability to phase out the middle class: hmm. that's a toughie, but being middle class pretty much centers around home ownership, and oh.. that's right.. a federal entity owns most of those now. check
-24/7 Media Propaganda machine: That's a big 10-4. Check

So pretty much all that's missing is a figurehead, some old fashioned brainwashing of the children, and a rewards program for turning in your neighbors.

Man i haven't been to an NFL game in years.. much much easier to go to college games around here. The overall quality & quantity of the women present is better also.

We don't have too many college games around here, being England and all, considering the masses are interested in soccer, so any chance to see the NFL and I'm there like a shot.

And now you've checked off the principles for a totalitarianist government to succeed, it seems the internet is now our only freedom. So the ability to say "imo internetz > politics 4eva" is keeping me from being in a police state?

...

Cool

For now..regulation of "der interwebz" is already in motion.

As for soccer, You mean no hot chicks come out on a weekend afternoon in the fall to help cheer the home team to victory? That's messed up if that's the case..

Who's playing at the game you're goin' to anyway?

Soccer, nope, hot chicks don't usually come out in any season to cheer the home team on. Usually shaven headed, obese old males. And it's the Chargers vs Saints methinks.

That's the great thing about college football in the south.. enough of them are raised to actually want to spend a Fall afternoon at a football stadium, standing around.. getting all hot.. jumping up and down... *ahem* anyway..

Chargers v Saints sounds like a good game.. both of them will probably need that win pretty bad, and that's two pretty nice offenses. It's a strange strange year in the NFL so far..

I take that back.. Browns & Bengals both suck, so some things are back to normal.

Hmmmm... yeah, the NFL's gone back to the old powerhouses again. i.e. the Pats not winning everything then choking.

I will also be at Wembly. My old British College team is having a mini reunion. Can't wait.

I want to see Sproles bust a big return. The guy is incredible.
