I vouch for Rod's LB knowledge, having gone up against him for quite a few seasons. Although I personally wouldn't stop at 25 strength

(1) Don't pump strength to more than 25.
(2) Don't pump tackling to more than 35.
(3) Focus (but don't necessarily max one and then switch to the next attribute) on Speed as your primary, agility as your secondary and vision as the third.
(4) Set to Wrap Up. Now you won't miss tackles and you will still force fumbles.
(5) Train confidence, jumping, and catching to 20.
(6) Enjoy the awesomeness of your linebacker and the excellent offers you will receive in free agency in the coming seasons.

what will you use you equipment and custom equipment on?
When and how much will you put into Special Abilities ?

Which is your favorite SA? I assume hard hitter tree?

also, do you ever pump strength to first cap? How about tackling?

This looks good for general advice to OLBs.

But power backs would have a field day against a defense sporting exclusively LBs built like this. You need a generally stronger MLB to watch for those power back runs up the gut.

Not so much. My D features my linebackers starting at LOLB and MLB.

And an applied Season 5 glimpse of a season to come
http://goallineblitz.com/game/game.pl?game_id=187203
24 tackles 5 TFL 2 FF in a combined 92 plays between Max and Rod

Packmentality is crazy good. Aside from scrimmage tactics, just the linebacker behavior is nuts.

I still prefer my 4:3 ratio over a 3:2 ratio. But that is just me. Its worked at lower and higher levels.

SA's
Defensive Gen for the MLB
2 in Monster hit is plenty, even with low strength and on wrap-up. Still get above avg FF numbers.
I don't think I have more than 2 points in any SA for any linebacker (except D-gen for my MLB) but for one I have a 'swat' and 'shed' up to 3. When it starts costing two points, I saw screw it. There are simply too many categories to pump with a LB.
Hard hitter tree for MLB because D-gen costs so damn much.
Pass rush for the OLBs because of the shed and swat.

I finally softcapped tackling in my season 1 linebackers in season 5. Never pump strength to soft cap. I'd get agility and speed to the hardcap (3for1) before I'd even consider it.

custom to speed. 1 or 2 pieces of equipment dedicated to agil and the others all to speed.

Having my speed high was the priority for me since the start (pre-agility update). I soft capped my speed, and almost have agility and strength soft capped. That seems to work for me, but I am lvl 21 so I am just dribbling forum shit...

I know this is a stupid question but I am new what is "soft capped" and "capped" and what is the number on different levels.

For instance, on a pitch play where the strongside guard pulls an opportunity is created for a linebacker to shoot that vacated hole to get the player in the backfield before he wrecks shop to the outside. Slower, stronger players will get caught on the strongside tackle or another trailing blocker while a fast linebacker makes the tackle in the backfield.

This would be an example on that. It helped my LB that he thought about going inside though.

You play in a crap league on a middling team, and the reason your defenders can't get off the field (you average 10 plays more a game than I do) is because you tackle them after they gain significant yardage.

If you want to compare MLBs to MLBs then do so, but either way you are screwed. I start the LOLB (Rod Long) and the MLB (Maximus) on that team.

Take your pick bro. My linebackers get more

(1)Forced Fumbles
(2)Tackles For losses
(3)Interceptions
(4)Touchdowns
(5)Passes Defended

in less plays. And the team defends better and wins more.

YOur linebacker really pwns with more missed tackles and overall total number of tackles. GAg.

I looked at this game and the linebackers were getting abused by this offensive line and they ran when they had to against a team designed to stop the run which indicates that they got manhandled. Your team also tends to take a beating through the air. The replay below is from a sequence where they bowled over your lb's and they couldn't break out of any blocks. They made your defense look slow.

Here is another instance where your LB's speed was negated, and they ended up paying the price. Your LB's rely on scheme against sub quality opponents(Stacking the box with goal line D like defense). Against average teams in your league your lb's look fast, but against quality opponents your LB's get manhandled and look slow.
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=88797&pbp_id=8236490 Follow this sequence along to the eventual score.

another example of a lb without much strength that plays well. Beason has good speed and agility but not as high as some others. I think a lot of his stats come from his high vision and confidence. He is designed to be a mental leader and he has done well. I am working on his pass coverage abilites now.

Its when the attribute takes more than one point to upgrade. 48 is the soft capped, 60 is the 2nd cap, ect. Each cap comes after you use 24 SP on the attribute after the first cap. So +12 at 2 per up, +8 at 3 per up, ect

42 rushes for 131 yards against us in that game against an undefeated power back team that is in USA AAA1. 3.1 ypc and you are giving me crap for it. . . "Your LB's rely on scheme against sub-quality opponents". . . Are you kiddding me. That team has lost 5 regular season games the past 3 seasons. We don't even need to set tactics against those kind of opponents. Hahaha. nice try neophyte.

Oh wait, I see that you got here in the second half of season 3 and your highest level player is level 20. I think I addressed this in the original post about people coming and feeling alienated about their crappy builds. I think your level 13 linebacker who missed 20% of his tackles in the D-LEAGUES pretty much disqualifies you as having a credible opinion in this forum.
