WHat confuses me is that every single decent player left on the roster except for Airrun Runs has a contract that ends on Day 40.

So, by keeping people around, he guarantees that he's scewing himself for next season. And if he doesn't move them soon, thos eplayers will quiickly lose their trade value.

Is the new owner just being a douche and keeping people hostage for half a season for spite?

If you're going to rebuild, then trade everyone and start rebuilding. If you can't hang, sell the team.

by keeping people through day 40, he gives himself the best chance of staying in the league for next season.

the FA market now is bleak, and bringing in players that are currently without teams would almost certainly result in the team being relegated.

if he stays and can recruit well, he'll have more people to choose from in the off-season (when all of the other day 40 contracts expire).

yeah but he wont stay, in the current state of the roster they cant even beat the globbies. He might as well try to trade the talent away to get some decent guys that will be willing to stay.

Exactly. He's being relegated regardless. Maybe if he had brought in players to augment the talent he had...but not with a bunch of CPUs all over the roster.

You could re-sign all of your players to day 40 contracts. Give them the choice on weather or not they want to stay.
