Just doesn't make sense to put the "Best" Gold teams vs the "Worst" Silver teams (amongst the ones chosen of course) to try and determine which league is better...

We didn't try to do that it was just how the rankings came out.

The pot that called the kettle black! (Now that's a top 10 for maturity)
This tourney has been canceled as far as the thread goes. I will take my 50 flex back GTD
That amounts to what .20 cents?

Looking forward to your venture in Gold for sure Mikey.

This makes sense. Thanks for adding to the tourney ideas PING and not taking away from it.

I think problem 1 is there needs to be a vetting process for the silver teams. There have been some pretty bad silver teams playing in this tourney, IIRC last year was really bad.

Even with that said, I think if this tourney starts later you can have more time to gauge teams and then seed them. For example, the Atomic Cougars (sorry to pick on you), is losing silver league games by 50-60 points. What business do they have getting matched against an undefeated Gold team like SBWL? IMO, this tournament isn't about seeing who is better: gold or silver, that's a moot point. It's more about allowing good silver teams a chance to gauge themselves and improve; helping them prepare for their jump to gold.

IMO, this tournament becomes the most interesting (and useful to silver teams) when it matches very good silver teams (who actually have a legitimate shot at being in gold next year) with gold teams that will finish in 5th-10th place. The majority of good silver teams wouldn't expect to move into gold and win the league (although it has happened) and beat teams like Tombstone, FG, SBWL, etc.

What will help them is to play the teams that they will likely be battling for playoff spots. This year that would be teams like Wambulance, C3L, Whistle Pigs, AC Surf, Lonestar, etc. These are more valuable because a silver team can say "wow, this team is struggling to be a 6th or 7th seed and they're really tough or they just kicked my butt...I really need to improve if I'm going to make it in gold." Or maybe it's "Hey, I just beat a gold team that will likely make the playoffs, I have a good shot to compete next year!"

Beating a team like The U! who will wash out of gold after just 1 season, or getting destroyed by SWBL doesn't really mean much. You don't learn as much from it, and it doesn't really prove anything for either team.

Once you have the 16 teams, the methods described in the OP make sense. Winning games is the first and most important stat. Then how badly you beat teams. You have the reseeding every round to ensure that you are playing the most closely matched team in each round ie teams with wins and wins by the most margin are going to play at the top and teams with losses and the most points against are going to play at the bottom.

The system works best when there is a third round so that people can't sandbag their first win.

I agreed with 98% of what you said, some really good points. The only thing I felt the need to touch on was that you can learn A LOT from getting your team destroyed because you'll realize, "wow, my defense isn't as good as I thought it was" and go figure out a way to fix it.

I think you'd see better matchups if you didn't feel the need to follow the Best plays Worst tourny scheme....

it should be round 1 Silver MVT vs round 1 Gold MVT, and round 1 Silver MVT runner up vs round 1 Gold MVT runner up, and so on and so forth..

This way... the higher your PD (therefore likely the easier your game was) the better opponent you have to play...

Yes I realize this would probably favor teams who play middle-of-the road schedules, but I think it would be quite a bit more accurate than as is.

How about having the few Silver teams who fall short in their championship game this year be the silver teams invited for the following season. That will require the Silver teams to be top-notch and just missed out on a chance of getting to Gold. Then if some of those Silver teams either decline or fold, you can invite the other teams from the Silver conference championship game losers in...seems the best way to get the "best" Silver teams out there for next season. Only problem that arises is the teams that come up from Copper that were undefeated, but they generally aren't ready for top Silver competition to begin with. I think that is your best strategy to find the best competition for this tournament IMO

All these things are good ideas..............Yes GTD I think your idea for this season would be a decisive way to go for a true MVT for each division.

I'm going to make an executive decision here because it sounds like someone needs to make one in order for the tournament to proceed.

FG gets a 60 point victory over FCA in the second round. Here are the updated standings:

Gold MVT Leaderboard
1. Atlantic City Surf (2-0, +91 points differential)
2. CrackerTown Juniors (2-0, +22 pd)
3. Short Bus Window Lickers (1-1, +98 pd)
4. Dharma Initiatives (1-1, +70 pd)
5. Chicago 85' Bears (1-1, +59 pd)
6. Fighting Gamecocks (1-1, 53 pd)
7. Wambulance Academy (1-1, +1 pd)
8. The U! (1-1, -34 pd)

Silver MVT Leaderboard
1. DIRTY INC. (2-0, +45 pd)
2. New Orleans Who Dot (1-1, +3 pd)
3. Outer Banks Booty Tappers (1-1, 0 pd)
4. Springfield Test Dummies (1-1, -21 pd)
5. East Texas Midnight Riders (1-1, -60 pd)
6. Fight Club Academy (0-2, -64 pd)
7. Devil's Advocates (0-2, -95 pd)
8. Atomic Cougers (0-2, -168 pd)

Tourny organizer should find a team to replace FCA.

So would you rather have it all 8 teams together in one bracket? Then go by who makes it the farthest from each league gold and silver? or just have two separate brackets one where top 4 from gold play each other for MVT and one where top 4 from silver play each other for MVT

If we go with my suggestion, here are the next matchups:

ACSurf versus Dirty, Inc.
Crackertown versus New Orleans
Short Bus Versus Outer Banks Booty Tappers
DI Versus Springfield Test Dummies
Chicago Versus ETMR
FG versus Whoever Replaces FCA
Wham versus Devil's Advocates
The U versus Atomic Cougers

Gold sends the request for each of these because according to the rules, they have better records and +/- than any of their opposition.

Bottom 2 teams are out from both silver and gold so Wam and The U would be gone and so would AC and DA.

Problems with your new matchups is that most of those teams have already played each other.
