Five steps to a partial birth abortion:

I was going to attack you on that "douchebag" claim, tjking, on the basis that some women undergo partial birth abortions when their own life and health is at serious consequence. The fact is, those women are quite few, and I hope you're naive enough to be calling them "douchebags". Regardless, there must always be stipulations in the law to protect these women. If you disagree with this, you are the douchebag.

Now, who do get partial birth abortions typically?
A Washington Post investigative report described those who elect to have partial-birth abortions in the following way:
"The 'typical' patients tend to be young, low-income women, often poorly educated or naive, whose reasons for waiting so long to end their pregnancies are rarely medical."

Basically, they are douchebags in no position to be raising a child.

Also, hutchins, you're not very well educated on Obama's voting record. With that said, I don't trust you'd vote for a progressive, liberal candidate regardless of their position on partial birth abortions. You've proven your ignorance when it comes to Obama multiple times in this thread and others. Here's a little homework assignment for you: why are you ignorant on Obama's record on this particular issue?

Finally, as atrocious as it is to think of some 17 year old white-trash fuck up having a partial birth abortion, it shouldn't be up to the government to decide that because it isn't deemed ethical by most that it isn't her right. We're not discussing ethics or morals here. We should be discussing rights.

I agree that the issue is rights. But all intelligent living beings have rights. I'm not prepared to say exactly when a fetus becomes an intelligent living being, that's a fuzzy line and I understand people turning one way or another. But a child that is 3/4 birthed is clearly capable of surviving without the physical assistance of its mother. It is indisputably an intelligent living being and has the right not to have its brain sliced open. The "it's just a sack of tissue" ship has sailed.

Further, I don't really see how it could be that the mother's health is still at risk when the baby is 3/4 delivered. Are you telling me that she's okay if the kid is killed while it's head is in her, but she might die if the head is delivered? Maybe that's true, but it seems strange to me, so I'm not surprised to hear you say that the vast majority of these girls have no medical issue whatsoever. But even if they do, there are conflicting rights involved.

I'm voting no on California's Prop 8, which is trying to say gays can't get married. I don't agree with legislating majority morality on others. The state should stay out of people's private lives. But I do believe in protecting rights, especially the rights of the helpless. That's why partial birth abortions are so disgusting imo. The child is clearly more helpless than the mother, and unlike the mother, did nothing to be put in that situation. The balance of equities weighs in favor of protecting the child.

Out of curiosity, when would you give a helpless victim rights? When they blow out the candles on their first birthday cake?

At least we agree here. This is an embarrassment for Palin, her "handlers," the republican party, and American democracy in general. How much more proof do you need that intelligence is not a requirement for the highest jobs in the United States? How is Palin's nomination not an indictment of the entire process, a clear demonstration that the major parties don't even respect American voters enough to select decent leaders?

The 2-party system pisses me off to NO end.

Let's not kid ourselves. Racism still exists. Racial tensions still definitely exist, everywhere. Please see Obama's race speech in Philadelphia. That is the speech that made me jump on board. Obama is one of the first candidates that isn't trying to paint it a prettier picture than it really is. And honestly, part if it is because he is a black man. A white man wouldn't ever be able to say "a typical black man". Stereotypes exist, they are real. There is no avoiding it. Why do they exist? Because in many instances -- they are true! I wonder what the percentage of elderly white woman who doesn't harbor racial tensions really is?
