Yes, because in the current system, new players don't make terrible builds.

wtf are you talking about

It might be easier if we just had 1 tread dealing with the concept of archtypes, and individual threads for each of the position archtypes. it would cut down on the clutter tremendously.

Say I make an OT, now I have to decide if he's going to be a pass blocker, or a run blocker. You going to have the OT1, and OT2 spots on the specific depth chart for this, or are we going to be screwed if we pass and have a run blocker in there?

So let me see, then I make a LB, he has to be made position specific, as a LOLB, MLB, or ROLB. Then a run stuffer, or a coverage specialist, or a blitzer....

This is dumb. what if I decided I wanted to change him, and make him go from being a LOLB, to a ROLB? I have to start all over again.... Oh, I get it now, make them use up more flex, so they spend more money on the game. Now I get it, make them spend their hard earned cash as fast as you can.

The reason is players can't just change in real football. I know this isn't the NFL, but when Peyton Manning came out of college, he was a passing QB. Later on down his career, he can't just be like "I feel like rushing more, so I'm going to get faster."

I actually came pretty close to drooling while reading the OP and I'm not ashamed to admit it.

This is the kind of system that I had in mind when I signed up for this game in season 1. I was extremely disappointed that is wasn't done in an archetype system (or at least with reasonable ALGs). Now all is right with the world.

I especially appreciate there being a specific special teams archetype.

The only thing that I disagree with is the flex prices. Not in terms of affordability, but in terms of glamour to cost ratio. Special teams players should cost less even though they are allowed to play their positions. Let's be honest, picking a special teams archetype and then trying to play your natural position on offense or defense is going to put you at a disadvantage (however small) and this game is all about finding the most minute fraction of an advantage. Along the same lines, less glamorous archetypes (blocking FBs/TEs) should cost a bit less compared to their receiving and rushing counterparts.

I understand the business aspect of it so it isn't a huge issue. Overall, I think this is an amazing idea. Some of the archetypes could obviously use a little work in terms of balancing out the bonus/penalty SAs and the SAs in general need a huge amount of testing and updating to make them viable, but just fantastic overall.

Is it possible to just have a position called 'Offensive Line' and 'Defensive Line' instead of C, G, OT, DE, DT

Eeek.

New players don't get the option of starting at level 25, so it really won't hurt you that much.

that's exactly what I am saying, this doesn't make it any easier, but people will think they are doing something right I guess, which is something.

Finally, what's with the confidence major for power running archetypes? Is it becoming more important? Such as it being worth capping to take advantage of ALGs or is it one of those things like tackling was for OL (a way to force players to not totally neglect it)?

Backs need Con to not fumble, and most people agree it should be at least capped if not higher.

You can give a power hb majors of Str, carry, agl but then what? Speed? that isnt going to happen, Vis, nope that is a waste, so the next best thing is Con.

I think people are over-analyzing in some ways...

as an example - the CB archetypes: Man Specialists; Zone Specialist; Hard Hitter; Combo...

if you choose "zone" - and build well - your CB will probably be VERY competent at Man to man - nothing says you are totally pigeonholing yourself - don't get so caught up in the label

This could be a great thing, however, the users and admins must be careful not to let this be the start of tons of significant changes that get rid of everything that we all love about this game.

No. Higher league teams won't drop down to get these new players. Most likely, they have farm teams so they can do that.

Calling it right now... This new system will drive the recruiters crazy... I don't think there are enought players out there to make this system work yet... Bort might need to cut some teams inorder for this to be successful

It actually should make it somewhat easier though because you'll now be able to tag by archetype - so if you want to transport a archetype specific playcall, you can.

Yeah, but vs top teams at the highest level it is a tedious job. If you want 100% results it isn't really going to change any of that IMO. Especially when you got I form slams/20 yard deep routes with damn near same personnel on field... Takes a lot more work than simple tagging
