Actually, the OP was about why the top WL team wanted players who were skill built only, and had no pedigree.
They didn't care about how your player did before, they only cared about what his skills were.
If that is the case, then why are the first 9 seasons relevant?

The only relevancy of the first 9 seasons is not squandering your SP trying to perform during them.
I have 4 level 50-51 players. Only one of them hasn't invested in SAs. It's not surprisingly the best one out of the four.

You could have phrased your OP a bit better to avoid the hassle.
The first 8-9 seasons aren't relevant (besides getting a high play count) if you want to build something that can compete at WL.
It is probably reasonable to criticise the current system in place which promotes this, but not worth singling out a particular WL team who passed on your player.

It is quite easy to have a successful career and still be WL caliber at your peak. Cap building and waiting to invest in SAs usually leads to just as much success on the way up as it does on the top. You just have to be a little better than that crappy HB in the OP
