Its free to GLB, requires no new work on the game, and greatly improves a main component.

would be a huge improvement on the useless users that we call mods now.

I just look at a thread like Novus had in NAPL and know how much better it made things. Find folks like him who consistently get it done and incentivize them to continue.

couldnt agree more. luckily when i made a blitzing LB for AC quite a few seasons ago, we had a lot of activity in the forums. from rookie all the way to reg pro. http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=5138702 712 posts in reg pro last season. team rankins, matchups etc etc. if we had more ppl like that, the league forums would be a lot better. im really hoping we all reset at the same time so i dont have a dead league forum.

there is nothing more fun than some trash talk every season, especially with the same guys. a lot more people become active once the scripts start running and people make predictions and whatnot. im all for GLB giving flex to people who run the scripts/do writeups.

Exactly. In regards to the forum specifically, activity is driven there by the same factor that drives any entertainment facet on the internet; content. The more content, and the better the quality, the more traffic and posts it will generate. If a simple teacher like me can figure that out, I'd imagine its something that wouldn't escape the thought process of others.

Well there's no reason FAQ couldn't still be the best place for information. I always had a problem with things like mandyross' build advice forum because even though pretty much anyone who requested an invite could get in, it's still an extra step removed from free information. Not only do you need to be invited, and then be a member to see what information was provided, but you also had to know of its existence in the first place. Plenty of agents don't use the forums but any who do will be able to find FAQ. I think private forums like yours serve a purpose also, but mainly for more specific inquiries that need answering by "experts."

Seems to me that if anyone gets a ban, it's for either not understanding the rules or the inability to control themselves or possibly both. We all know that trolls exist and if someone is pushing your button, just ignore them and/or flag it up.

You're just not familiar with that aspect of the site. There have always been huge double standards in the moderation of GLB. For some people who are disliked, any excuse is used to harass them, including offenses that even lead moderators admit are not addressed anywhere in the forum rules we agreed to. Then there are the vast majority of users that the moderators don't know and don't care about who can generally do what they want unless it's something egregious. Then there have always been staff favorites who could get away with absolutely anything, including much of the same behavior that other people got banned for. Darkus Black is always my go-to example because while he was a favorite of DigitalDaggers, Darkus could get away with absolutely anything. Once Darkus & DD had a falling out, Darkus kept getting banned for everything until he left to create his own site.

It's more of a game of math than football though.

You could say that about any game though. While there's some level of math involved in this game, a user doesn't have to be that hardcore to play this game so long as the system of creating parity is functioning well so the more casual user isn't constantly thrown to the wolves. But I don't think the element of mystery in the game is why this game had a peak and subsequent dropoff.

I think its more related to lots of little things but generally centered around elements of immersion (or lack thereof) that makes people trail off (in any game). GLB does some really cool things, but the thing it doesn't do is create any immersion for a user into a "football world".

There's no concept of drafts, there's no concept or incentive for bidding wars (for anything...players, team bonus-related items, etc.), there's no concept of (game-generated) news stories, (game-generated) power rankings, compelling all time lists/records (coordinator, owner, team, etc.). Basically, GLB is a football sandbox with the extracurricular elements of immersion left (completely) to the userbase. And I'm not so sure GLB2 isn't essentially the same thing with a different flavor of complexity.

Agreed.

Or even to take it a step further, just ask the GLB community for submissions for automated features to script into league pages/forums. Ask the community to help create a slightly better power ranking formula. Ask the community to create a bunch of "easily templated" news stories based on scriptable criteria (Game Magnitude within the League criteria, Game Result, Notable Performance criteria, etc.).

100 flex to each user submission thats used.

That idea has circled the mod forum a couple times.

That kind of stuff gets people talking. Honestly not many people care too much about trash talk in the forums. But a bunch of previews and rankings bring out users that generally try and stay away from the main boards.

Yes, and every game gets boring eventually

But yeah, a lot of the "immersion" things you mentioned actually aren't wanted by most of the userbase.

I'd also argue that it's impossible for the game to create the immersion for a completely "PvP" game. If it was a single player game, and you had a bunch of CPUs fighting for your player, sure, but that's kind of hard to foster when the teams are ran by humans.
