In my opinion, there are two issues with GLB1...
1) Shrinking user-base - This is the biggest issue. The number of active players is going down. That is, quite honestly, something that is to be expected for a game nearing 6 years old.
2) Complexity - There is a high learning curve for new players and coordinating takes too long. Some don't mind the work but for others its prohibitive.

For issue 1, GLB2 will either be water or gasoline. New players could find their way to GLB2, find it not quite complex enough, end stumble into (possibly back into) GLB1. This would put out the fire. On the other hand, GLB2 could cause a shift away from GLB1 from current users and which would only accelerate the flames. While a mass exodus could be a very bad thing for the game, it could also change the whole definition of GLB1 driven by the hardcore players who stick around.

Issue 2 is can't really be fixed in GLB1 and will be addressed by GLB2. The game is much, much simpler (for good or for bad). I honestly think its a bit too simple at this point, honestly. Those who don't like the complexity of GLB1 may thoroughly enjoy GLB2.
