You have an interesting definition of better. Bolick did give some solid advice in there at times, but it was almost always lost in the morass of trolling and dickishness with which he infected the forum. If he was more interested in actually helping rather than trying to prove him self correct at all times, the forum would have been much better off and he would have suffer much fewer bans.

Now I can't say I like Romo or that he's been good for the game, but bolick deserved every ban I saw him get in FAQ and, for the most part, in the forums in general. In a regulated environment like this, delivery of the message is as important as the substance. That's something bolick has never been smart enough to understand and it's the reason why he is so frequently banned.

Bans are generally warranted and often times when it comes to bolick insistence to continue to push the issue, the ban is more of a cold shower than anything.

The whole forum "nazi" thing is a bit overplayed. It has more weight in league forums, where we were admittedly a bit overzealous at times, but main has always been way more lenient than most other forums online. Sure, there's examples of people continually pushing the limits then acting like the straw that broke the camels back was an "unfair" suspension, but I'm not sure that falls under Godwin's Law.

League forums is really what I was talking about. SIDEBAR....To reverse that cycle, give the leagues a reason to get active via scripted rankings, scripted news stories based on some simple criteria (which the user base could likely help define), etc. that would be auto-posted to the respective league forums. If nothing else, it gives something to check out without waiting on a mod or user to go thru the trouble. It could be used for GLB2 as well as any other league-based script. /SIDEBAR

I also think you grossly overestimate the amount of people that have "figured it out" (or even think they've figured it out), or maybe you're assuming the majority of users actually read every single GLB Main, FAQ, Q&A thread over the past 6+ years. I have no evidence to back this up, but I'd bet the vast majority of users don't think they have figured out very much so their questions are (of course) going to sound repetitive to those that have.

And to that end...what does "figuring it all out" even mean in a football-based game? If the game is reasonably balanced for multiple strategies to succeed, then its a more complicated game of rock/scissors/paper for the most part with lots of other variables related to how good your paper is, for example. But unlike non-sports MMOs, people don't get sick of their favorite sport(s) once they've found an interest in a particular game version of it. So I'd contend that those who have "figured it out" & still hanging around may in fact be bored, but they are more bored of the (GLB-induced) minutiae more than they are about the concept of the game, or the payoff of their strategy working against others who have "figured it out" as well.

A pissing match in FAQ has pretty much always resulted in a suspension hasn't it?

It didn't for whodey08, who initiated the whole thing by talking shit to drewd21 and then to me.

Wrong. For most of GLB's history FAQ was by far the best place to get information because it was easily accessible. There were some people in FAQ and Rate My Player who gave bad advice, generally unintentionally but occasionally on purpose, yet they were the vast minority.

I had three straight bans on three straight posts in FAQ. I have also been told by two former moderators that McBriar wanted me targeted in FAQ until I stopped posting there. There has never been a more helpful poster in FAQ than me, as only McBriar had more total posts in there and he is one of those who unintentionally gave out bad advice because he's always been terrible at this game.

I honestly don't know how anyone gets a ban from a forum, not having a pop at you or anyone else.
Seems to me that if anyone gets a ban, it's for either not understanding the rules or the inability to control themselves or possibly both.
We all know that trolls exist and if someone is pushing your button, just ignore them and/or flag it up.

For the better part of the time I stay away from the FAQ forum. Which is why I created my own forum and left it open to the public. Although mostly I opened it to weed out the blah blah moderator trolls.

Then why have an FAQ forum that can be posted in? Why not just make it a comprehensive FAQ based on topic that (new & old) users can just browse for info on?

I realize the obvious answer is "who the hell is going to do all that?" but thats kind of my point. If you just found this game today, who would you PM your questions to, when you don't know what (or who) you don't know?

It's more of a game of math than football though.

Getting those spreadsheets in order to get the maximum amount of speed, etc. Yeah, maybe some people could squeeze out some more efficiency, the game is far from having the sense of wonder that all games have at first.

It doesn't matter than not every single person knows every single detail, once the collective hivemind knows everything, the sense of discovery is mostly gone. There's less "wonder how much this attribute helps this interaction?" and more spreadsheets mapping out the perfect build plan.
