Actually, my defense has changed a ton this season. I constantly adapt. Doesn't everyone?

Really?

I thought that by adding 20 or so plays to each input and then letting the AI sort out things, it would do the trick! That way the defense is always different and adapts to each opponent.

If I'm way off here just ignore my post .... and please don't tell Novus!

LOLNO.

Even when I was assisting with Asau's offense up in World League a few seasons ago, I was amazed by the number of teams up there who just plugged in a defense sometime during the pre-season and let it roll with no changes. I was even more amazed by the number of those teams that still managed to succeed... because a lot of the OCs up there were just as lazy as the DCs and couldn't be bothered to tailor their offensive attack to go after their opponent's weaknesses and predictability on D. Of course, that was mainly during the regular season, and the cares went through the roof come playoff time. And during the regular season there were of course some OCs and DCs who actually put in some effort... though they were derisively called "try-hards." But there weren't as many as you would expect, given the reputation WL has for high-level game-play.

I'm sure everyone's got reasons for it, and sometimes it's just a matter of time-management, but yeah, there's more people than you might expect who just plug in a defense for Game 1 and beg people to exploit-attack it all season long.

How else do you think we managed to win 12 games this season?

Interesting. Well, thanks Novus for all the work you did in this thread. This was one of the better league threads I have seen in a long time. And to all the new teams this season, you guys did really great and have added a lot to the competition and spirit of North America.

Good luck to everyone in the playoffs. I am sure there will be upsets and only hope it isn't Cincy who gets upset!

I'd be willing to bet 95% of wl teams made at least a couple changes to their ai over the course of the season or at the very least had a couple different ai's in place like ghuff to switch things up.

That might not be true gameplanning sure but they are making fixes of sorts. Even guys like hcreek are making changes.

NOVUS RANKINGS - AFTER 16 GAMES

One last, final, last rankings post.

01) Oseberg Vikings - 15-1 - {CANADA}
Had a dominant run through Canada this season, with their sole loss coming to Burnside in a meaningless game. Oseberg is the team to beat in North America Pro this season.

02) Cincinnati Shockers - 15-1 - {USA}
Fell to the pesky Cobden Muskrats in Game 1, and then went on an absolute tear for the rest of the season, emerging victorious over several strong challengers. If the Shockers don't make it to World League, I'll be… well… shocked.

03) Burnside Bandits - 14-2 - {CANADA}
Only 2 losses on the season, both by 1 score to competitive teams, and the only team to defeat Oseberg. Burnside is a strong candidate to make World League for sure.

04) Fire Breathing Rubber Duckies - 13-3 - {CANADA}
The Duckies started out hot, then suffered some surprising losses to Oseberg, Burnside and Vicious Circle. But the Duckies have been to the mountaintop before, and they know what it takes to get there again. They're quite capable of turning it up a notch for the playoffs.

05) KC's Metro Choppers - 13-3 - {USA}
KC's 46-point loss to the Royal Men looms large, as does their 12-point loss to Austin. But KC also gave Cincy their toughest fight in the USA, tamed the prolific offenses of both Palm Bay and Choppin, and outgunned Burnside in Game 1. On balance, I think KC is the #2 team in the USA, standings notwithstanding.

06) Austin Wineswilling Fancy Boys - 13-3 - {USA}
Seems like Austin always wins big (KC, Palm Bay, Royal Men, State of Franklin) or loses big (Cincy, Choppin, Orlando). That inconsistency makes me question whether they have what it takes to make it to World League, but if they can string together two more hot games, that's all they'll need.

07) Legacy's Runnin With The Real McCoys - 12-4 - {CANADA}
Couldn't hold it together against the top teams in Canada, though they did give Oseberg a fight and handled themselves well against everyone else. I don't think the McCoys are making it to World League, but don't count them out entirely.

08) Palm Bay Palookas - 12-4 - {USA}
Started hot, but lost 4 of their last 5 in a brutally back-loaded schedule to drop to the 5-seed. But they match up well against the Choppin Broccoli and beat them by 21 early in the season, and their close losses to Cincy and KC imply that Palm Bay could still make a splash in the playoffs.

09) Choppin Broccoli - 13-3 - {USA}
Choppin's defense remains suspect, but their offense… holy cow, they can put up points, and that makes them a potential nightmare in the playoffs if your own offense can't keep up.

10) Puffington Magic Dragons - 11-5 - {CANADA}
Fought hard against all the top teams in Canada, but never could quite seal the deal. Still, Puffington will be a handful for anyone they face in the playoffs.

11) Vicious Circle - 11-5 - {CANADA}
Consistently a tough opponent for everyone who played them this season.

12) All The King's Royal Men - 11-5 - {USA}
Started out ice-cold but warmed up as the season progressed and their Chemistry recovered. Their 42-point demolition of KC Metro was a thing of beauty.

13) Orlando Midget Mafia - 10-6 - {USA}
It's interesting to think about the sort of season Orlando could've had with better Chemistry and more of a back-loaded schedule. Orlando got hot towards the end of the season, with big wins over Austin and State of Franklin serving as an exclamation mark.

14) Dallas Paladins - 10-6 - {CANADA}
Dallas struggled mightily against top-level competition, but they distanced themselves from everyone below them by taking care of business and avoiding upset losses.

15) Cobden Muskrats - 10-6 - {CANADA}
Cobden scored some impressive upsets along the way: Cincinnati, the Real McCoys, Puffington. But Cobden's inconsistency kept them from reaching the top of Canada's pile. Still, they're in the playoffs, and Cobden has proven they're dangerous any time they step on the field.

16) Dot Bilderberg Agency - 8-8 - {CANADA}
Fought hard to prove they belonged in Canada Pro, and I think they made their case despite missing the playoffs, upsetting Vicious Circle and playing Oseberg within 4 along the way. Hopefully Support will see fit to keep Bilderberg in Canada next season too.

17) State Of Franklin Patriots - 8-8 - {USA}
The Patriots avoided upsets and stepped up big-time against College Station in a do-or-die game for the last playoff spot. But State of Franklin also struggled badly against every playoff team they faced with the exception of KC Metro. They'll need to do better next season if they want to stay in USA Pro.

18) Victoria Teabaggers - 9-7 - {CANADA}
Victoria kept things interesting, scoring upsets of the Royal Men, Cobden and Burnside, but they lost all the games they needed to win to secure a playoff spot and missed out in the end. But at least Victoria can say they went down swingin'.

19) College Station Aggies - 8-8 - {USA}
The Aggies had their chances to make the playoffs -- a do-or-die game with State of Franklin, closes finishes with KC Metro and Choppin -- but when the pressure was on, the Aggies just couldn't get the job done. Still they have a great roster, and if Support keeps them in USA Pro, College Station has a great opportunity to build on this season and have a great Season 40.

20) South Georgia Growl - 7-9 - {USA}
South Georgia's tough early schedule and early Chemistry problems were just too much to overcome this season.

21) Sunday Funday - 6-10 - {CANADA}

22) BC Lions - 5-11 - {CANADA}
BC never got their offense sorted out this season.

23) Nevada Farm Boys - 5-11 - {USA}
They fought hard, but Nevada was just outmatched in USA Pro this season.

24) Chicago Bears 85 - 4-12 - {USA}
Really nothing remarkable about Chicago this season, except that they managed to make Hillbilly and the Aces look competitive.

25) The Gun Circus - 3-13 - {CANADA}
Clearly shooting blanks.

26) Hillbilly Coondogs - 4-12 - {USA}
The second-worst human team in the USA.

27) GLB Gridiron Aces - 2-14 - {USA}
The worst human team in the USA.

28) El Camino - 2-14 - {CANADA}
Needs to be sold off for scrap metal.

29) Southern Storm - 1-15 - {USA}
CPU-owned team, though that does give them an advantage over human-owned teams with CPU rosters: no penalty to Southern's CPU dots.

30) Grande Torino - 1-15 - {CANADA}
Just awful. Managed to beat the Drunk Masterminds, though.

31) Drunk Masterminds - 0-16 - {CANADA}
Terrible roster. Even found a way to lose to Grande Torino by 121.

32) Tampa Bay Turbulence - 0-16 - {USA}
Human-owned. Empty roster. No threat.
