OTOH, if there is a supreme being that has half the characteristics ascribed to it, it will not care if I spent all Sunday in church or not. More so, given the vastness of the universe, I'm really not important enough in the grand scheme of things.

Also, San Marcos has an excellent chipotle salsa. No chunks, so yello fear not break his chips.

So Vlady your basing your disbelief of God based on morality? Just because you do not like how God does things does not change if He is real or not does it?

Sad that this was moved, but I'm not an atheist. I'm an agnostic who knows that religion is very useful to many folks but who finds no personal use for it. I find it very fascinating (was nearly a religion minor in undergrad) but ultimately I don't need it to live my life. If I die, then this is it- and so what I do now is *much* more important than if I believed there is an afterlife, because all that will be left after I am dead is what I've done in this life to make things better.

Look at it a different way: If the only reason people don't lie, steal, or kill is because they are afraid of what happens after they die, that doesn't sound very moralistic to me.

Sorry to bring sadness to your life. But GLB main is supposed to be kept to GLB related topics only. Agnosticism is built on the idea that the existence of God can not be truly known or not known.

So I am not surprised to see you have no use for religion since you you do not think we can truly know which God exists. But I am surprised to see your "look at it a different way" comment. Because if we can not truly know for sure the existence of God or which God exists then how can you make a judgement on the morality of why people do what they do or believe what they believe?

Except, you can believe in afterlife and still live this life to the fullest. THose are not mutually exclusive concepts.

Or maybe the reason to not steal or kill is because you end up in jail among other things?

Yes you can, but many religious folks question how someone can be moral or have a meaning in life if they are not religious. My point is that the exact opposite is true; non-religious does not = nihilistic anymore than religious automatically = morality. My point above is that there are plenty of people who are religious who engage in lower-level moral behavior, little more than a child who doesn't do something only because they might get a spanking.

In terms of your second example, that's still operating on a fear of punishment concept, which is a low level moral behavior. Instead of the eternity of burning in Hell, you've substituted going to prison. Once again, this view of moral behavior is nothing to write home about.

religious people only do good things to get into heaven. they claim to be selfless, good people when in reality, theyre just looking out for themselves.

religion is a scam. i wish i got to take all your money for talking stupid shit about someone who makes you get on your knees and pray and then receive nothing.

if there is a god, its not someone i would like to get to know. hes probably as greedy as every other higher up in this game of religion.

Make a thread with a racial epithet as the title.

It'll get chat going.

Reading just the first page and then skipping to the most recent page (http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=5099610&page=13) is absolutely fucking hilarious. We go from "alcohol, grilling and cats" to ANY GOD THAT DEMANDS I WORSHIP IT IS NOT A SUPREME BEING.

Never change, GLB

I agree with you Vlady. The evidence of morality in a person is not in anyway evidence for is their beliefs are true. Though I disagree with you on fear. The only time we ever complain about fear is when we talk about religion. No one every makes fun of someone for not playing in the middle of the freeway because they might get ran over. If there is a God isnt possible that our fear helps guide us to Him because if we are disconnected from him without we made not realize a need for Him?

Would the proper parody of this thread be to start a thread about religion and then start talking dotball and get it moved to the GLB forum?
