Good call. Bort says that's random enough.

If you stack one conference, and leave the other with all middle tier teams, you're going to have the illusion of parity within the league. This is why people think this season is the most competitive. The teams in each conference are pretty evenly matched, but the conferences might as well be two different leagues.

Nah, randomness is prone to clumping/streaky results, which is like what we see now in the WL.

What I meant by parity was each league having a similar overall power rank (or about the same # of top, mid, and bottom tier teams). Randomness would do that every once in awhile. Kinda depends on how many of each there is.

I think the "it's not random enough" is a good argument and i'd roll with that one a little more.

Hey, I agree.

PP said that he doesn't believe it's actually random. I tend to agree.

What better way than to make your promotion system seem like it's working than to stack conferences so all of the similar quality teams are in them? I've seen it done before (when the casual cloud was created).

People have been crying for more parity. Bort is giving it to them by stacking the conferences unevenly?

Lol at you thinking Bort's clever and devious enough to be able to stack the conferences this well on purpose.
If he'd been trying to stack them to give the illusion of parity you would have had something like Blaze/Kai/14 promoting teams in one and everyone else in the other.

BTW, there's a less obvious reason why my rankings are Zeta top-heavy.
D9: 0 ranked scrims
Hali: 0 Ranked scrims
Nashville: 0 ranked scrims
QCBC: 1 ranked scrim

Everyone in the Zeta playoff hunt has played a ton of scrims, and I think there's no team in zeta with fewer than 3 ranked scrims. Usually the teams that don't play in tournaments are broken up between the conferences some and it balances out, but this season there's only a small number of playoff quality teams that aren't playing a lot of scrims, and they're all in Alpha.
My rankings aren't everything.

I REALLY enjoy your rankings, but you just pointed out one of the issues it has (through no fault of your own). Between a long work trip and a 10 day vacation I just returned from, I just couldn't do tourney's this ssn. So, we didn't get to pad our record with comparative cup cakes. That sure they hell isn't a complaint. I've never bitched about rankings and never will. I think they're all cool as hell. It just points out one of the issues with them

I would be amazed if Bort intentionally stacked the conferences...that's just not how he thinks in my experience.

I also don't think you can do a whole lot to figure out who will be the top teams before the season starts, though you can usually pick about 4 teams that will reliably be in the top 8.

I do agree that this season looked very lopsided from the beginning, and that turned out to be accurate. It was definitely a pretty wacky draw.

Usually, the conference that looks stronger in the preseason ends up being the weaker conference. Just because a team is good one year doesn't mean they'll be worth a damn the next.
