Hey, I've asked a number of times to name teams who were snubbed and would be in the top 20-30 teams, no one has responded. Your only response was "US AND CA PRO SUCK <insert Kobra Kai quote here> THEY SHOULD ALL BE OUT!! <insert Kobra Kai quote here>." Yup, that's open minded.

I never said they "sucked". I said there are others that are deserving. If you want to see a list of teams that I believe were snubbed go to the "leagues" link. From there you can access Africa, Asia, South America, W & E Europe...etc.... You can click on AA leagues, AAA leagues, and Pro Leagues. From there you can find last seasons champions. Of course you would have to change the tournament entries every year based off of champions....but you get the point.

I'm sure that Jed and Tim Harper really want to waste their time playing the Africa AA champ and the USA BBB champs in round 1 and 2.......lol.

Great idea for a tournament!

And Jed, I've asked them for teams that got snubbed also and I haven't really got any answers either. The best list of teams that were snubbed were the next teams to get in from my bubble list teams:

(3)Vanuatu Kava Sharks - (16-0) Oceania AAA#1 - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=975
(2)Labrador Retrievers - (14-2) Canada AAA#1 - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=156 (lost to OOTP Ballers in playoffs)
(2)Manilla Hitmen - (15-1) SE Asia AAA#2 - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1000 (lost to Tire Fires)
(1)Brantford Mustangs - (16-0) Oceania Pro - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=578 (lost to Canberra Strike)

(0)London Monarchs - (11-5) WE Pro - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=262
(0)Rotterdam Roughnecks - (10-6) WE Pro - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=275 (lost to Trolls in playoffs)
(0)Nova Scotia Whales (10-6) CPL - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=180
(0)Kansas City Cougars - (15-1) USA AAA#1 - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=84 (would accept if received an invite)
(0)Kona Gold - (13-3) USA AA#2 - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=671
(0)Brisbane Gods - (11-5) Oceania Pro - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=566 (would accept an invite if offered)
(0)Kitchener Lions - (9-7) CPL - http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=155 (would accept an invitation if offered)

And of those teams only the top 4 managed to win a playoff game last year against much weaker competition than they would face in my tournament. How are they going to win 6 games vs elite competition?

The biggest flaw in the tournament is something I couldn't control: Bort changing speed so much. Alot of these teams were speed based and now are in deep crap because speed doesn't rule anymore. Then again, something else could change in "what is important" between now and when the tournament starts anyway.

I did the best I could.

There is no reason why someone else couldn't set up a tournament with all the BBB and A and AA champs that didn't get an invite to this tournament though....

Exactly. Nothing excel could not handle.

BCS can be done because teams play teams outside of their conference. You can rate the conferences by who wins when they play each other. You can't say if Western Europe AAA is better than Oceania Pro because they never play each other.

Please explain how you could rank any of the leagues vs another in any way other than the average level list that Bort put out. And why is that list ok for teams to say "we play in the BEST league or 4th best league"? Most of you are arguing that level doesn't matter. Why aren't you all over Bort for publishing that meaningless list of what the average level is?

So besides ranking on pure level......someone please tell me how I can rank the 13-3 winner of a AAA league vs the 13-3 winner of a BBB league vs the 13-3 winner of a USA Pro vs the 13-3 winner of Oceania Pro??

Where do you put the cutoff between league champions who make it and league champions who don't?

I pretty much have all of the league champions from the top leagues who wanted in. That was a no-brainer. The hard part was then deciding between teams who didn't win the league.

And the Pimps backed out because:

1) The person running it is a complete joke and doesn't know a good team when he sees one.
2) The whole idea will never work. How long has it been since SI started this load of crap? and still not 1 game has been played?
3) SI wanted to lower seed to pay for the higher seed to play, so yes, seeds did matter-not sure if he switched that or not, but im assuming he did since it got such negative reaction.
4) Not all the best teams are participating, at one point he had ZERO WEPL teams even in his top 64. According to Fairforever's linked thread, WEPL is the 2nd best conference-since the level count means everything.
5) Another reason this tournament is flawed, and SI basically admitted it is that most of these teams are drastically different than last year. Teams will always be switching rosters and such.
6) A disagreement on when to play teams, some teams boost early, some boost late-early boosters have the advantage over late boosters in a tournament at the beginning of the season.
7) The fact that I don't feel like scouting and gameplanning any extra hours for some bunk tournament. I own one team and ACTIVELY GM another and GM 2 other teams on top of that.
8) SI wasn't even going to include us in his original tournament...why? because we had 0 level 25s on the roster-that was his answer. lol..and then we went on to win the championship beating teams with multiple 25s and 26s, so THEN we are good enough?..right.
9) SI's team is in the tournament and his team sucks-making this tournament completely and utterly flawed.

1.) I think YOU and your team are a joke, but I didn't let that stop me from inviting you.
2.) Bort said it was a good idea. He said he will announce when friendlies can be set up soon. I did all the work ahead of time, so we are ready to roll when he announces it. The earliest date for game 1 was always for August 10th, and we have flexibility to move that back up to 10 days if needed. No one even implied that it would start before then. We are still on track. Well planned in advance.
3.) I also offered to pay the 25 FP's for people who didn't think it was worth it. I offered for the top 10 teams and I'll extend that to anyone who has used up their free one(s). I'll pay for you if you don't think this tournament isn't worth 25 cents or don't have 25 cents laying around for your match. Problem solved.
4.) You can't read. It said at the top of those rankings in BOLD PRINT: This is not a final list but only a BEGINNING list and is not ranked yet. I'm taking nominations of other teams. I guess you have a hard time reading though.
5.) There is no way to set up 6 games that wouldn't be somewhat flawed without stopping the entire game before or after the playoffs for 12 days, and that isn't going to happen for many reasons. Any tournament is flawed in the same way. My Pitt Panthers had 2 key players hurt last year for the tournament and weren't even a tournament team without those 2 players. But because those 2 players racked up enough wins in the regular season, they got in. Of course they lost early, but you had to reward the team for their regular season accomplishments even if the same team that won all those games wasn't in the NCAA tournament.
6.) Early vs late season boosting means less and less every day. Boosting mid-season vs end of season is only like 250 XP's at most now. Even if this was a valid argument, you could easily argue that teams playing in shitty league have had an advantage over the last 2 season by being able to boost late. Teams in tough leagues may have HAD to boost early to make the playoffs. No way to reconcile this either. What would be the solution to this problem in your mind? Play during the league playoffs?? No one wants that. I love people who just hate and point out problems but don't have a solution.
7.) Many teams are in the same boat (including myself). That is also why I set up the tournament 10+ days in advance. You can prepare when you have time for your first 2 games at least. Everyone has other games to play, not just you.
8.) I'm pretty sure that you pulled out before final selections were made. I'm almost positive that you would have been in the first group of 64 (Pimps). I think you were near 60-64 though and couldn't take a 30+ point ass beating that the top USA Pro teams would have put on you. That's why you pussied out.
9.) I'll be glad to play you in a friendly AFTER the tournament is over. Dryden Blues would beat your team badly also. No shame in losing to that team at all. We played them 2 other times and were ahead by 3 win 2 minutes left and lost by 6 this year. We aren't far behind them. That being said, I still reserve the right to pull my team out if my team continues to suck ass because of the speed changes. I have no problem stepping aside. Don't let me team be your excuse either.

So there. All of your arguments are debunked. I think you need to add a #10 excuse to your list:

10.) The Pimps were scared they were going to lose by 40 and their fragile egos wouldn't have been able to take it.

Here's a team that could be a write-in if someone backs out or a spot otherwise opens up: http://goallineblitz.com/game/team.pl?team_id=1853. They will do some damage

No, not my team

I think you missed the whole Dong Energy cheating scandal. That happened to be the game after we knocked them out of the playoffs (despite their cheating).

We know they had the means. Do you think they might have had a motive for us to lose? Hmmmmm.

Nah, I'm sure that had nothing to do with it. Like I said, the other 2 games vs Dryden were within a TD.

You believe what you want though. Dong was a top 25 team on par with Dryden if they had not lost to us. Do we get any credit for taking down an elite 15-1 Canada Pro Team in the playoffs?

Guaranteed that Dong would have stomped your team in round 1, so you would never have even made it to round 2.....

not a bad team, but I would have to have the team owner PM me that they are interested. You have no idea how many PM's I had to send to owners and GM's trying to get ahold of teams that I invited. It was a huge pain in the ass. Plus how many hours I wasted carefully ranking teams that didn't even want in (like the Pimps and Kai).

So if the owner PM's me that they want in and would accept an invite, I'll add them to the back of the waitng list.

I really don't think more than 1 or 2 teams at most could get in. And it isn't fair to the teams that have been preparing for someone else in round 1. After a certain date, if any teams pull out, then the opponent is just going to get a forfeit win.

I may set that cut-off date to 24 hours after Bort makes his announcement and I have final dates set for the tournament games.

I don't know about other teams, but I don't plan on scouting our round one opponent until the day before round one. So I don't think it's necessary to think we're 100% locked into anything yet.

So how do you take into account when one division in a league is much stronger than the other? That happens all the time, so you'd automatically be snubbing many deserving teams right there.

Is this not the way the NFL works? Sure there are a few wild cards but the best teams get in the playoffs (those that won their division). Are you scared you won't get in? Im sure USA Pro people HATE my idea because it will lead to them being exposed for what they are. Who is to say what division is toughest or not? An average lvl list? That list has NOTHING to do with how good or not good a leagues champion is.

So were there ones which you think were really top 20-30 teams which were left out in favor of US/CA Pro teams that are in? If you think that some people were snubbed by being left out but realistically wouldn't advance very far, then who really cares? Some people are going to be snubbed towards the bottom in any system. I mean look at the NCAA tournament. There's teams snubbed every year, but other than the occasional upset which gets a lower team 2 or MAYBE 3 rounds in, they're not the ones who are going to really be towards the top anyway.

They don't snub league champions. You don't see the whole PAC-10 in the NCAA tourney. Why are you so scared to give others a chance to prove their worth. For all you know South East Asia AA could have the best team but you all are unwilling to give them a chance due to fear.

So between this and other posts I've seen from you, you're so against US/CA Pro teams, that you're almost ruling out the possibility that one is actually the best? So how many teams who probably do deserve to be in this are you going to leave out from US/CA Pro to overcompensate for the bias you see here? If you go in with this kind of thinking, your tournament is going to be just as flawed as you see this one being, just in the other direction.

FALSE. It would be a true tournament of champions. What did the teams in CA/US Pro do to deserve entry? They didn't win anything did they? Should they be in because an average lvl list says they are 1 rank above another league. We are talking about 5 freaking XP distributed over 200-300 XP. What a joke. If they win their league they get in, if they lose they do not. Its very simple.

BOW TO YOUR SENSEI JED!

1.) NFL doesn't invite High school and college champs to play in the NFL playoffs.
2.) Point #1 proves that lower level champions are snubbed all the time. How do we decide who is Pro and who is college? That is the hard part which you aren't addressing.
3.) The Kai aren't champions of *any* league, so why do you care? You wouldn't be invited anyway. Your only chance of getting in a tournament like this is to consider the overall strength of your team by another measure like level of league strength (level).

with your team you can afford to do that.

I've already started and I'm sure we are still going to get crushed. I'm just trying to keep the loss respectable.

Dump Trucks are pretty darned good. I think I should have given myself an easier first round opponent. Haha.

I posted this over in ImTheScientist's tourney, thought it could help everyone:

"As much as you're going to hate what I'm about to say, your best chance of having an organized time (a week or 2 or whatever) for tournaments would be to work with SI, Sam, and anyone else trying to put together something like this to get Bort to do it."

I posted a proposition to the Mod forum for that, I don't know if Bort will listen, but if you guys coordinate, maybe there can be a set time at the end of the season for everyone to do friendlies, at which time, you could all do your tournaments

We'll be doing the same thing since we've got a tough league game the day before our tournament game. We'll definitely have our work cut out for us against the Benitos.

Since we have an even number of worlds, I think the ideal setup would be a 16 or 32-team playoff per world that would feed the finalists or semifinalists into a final 16/32 team playoff. Of course, you'll then have AA and A teams complaining that they weren't in the world playoff and weren't given a chance.

Sometimes, there's just no way to please everyone.
