Borderlands is no longer receiving updates either, and that had FAR more "investors" than GLB.

Thoughts?

Games aren't infinite use products.

Game developers don't just make a game then ride that into the sunset.

Generally speaking... no. But there are a few (internet/computer) games out there that have been around for a very long time... like WOW. (and some MMORPG's made just for the internet that have been around for decades.) But most run a new game up the post on, at least, a yearly basis.

Blizzard has released several games since WoW, along with "expansion packs" which are basically sequels. Whose to say that isn't what GLB is planning, I've heard they have at least a couple games in the making.

again, my comment was directed at the mods/admins that keep saying things like:

Telling the paying user base your more interested in getting something else out other then what they (the user base) are paying for turns off a lot of customers.

This wasn't a "GLB suxs" rage post. Just an observation.

But this game isn't going anywhere, it's not shutting down, and really isn't losing any quality by not implementing large scale suggestions. And what people are paying for right now carries over to any new game.

Paying customers are paying for THIS game as it is, as well as any future games developed. It's not like this game is ceasing to exist. If I go buy a checkerboard I'm not bitching that they aren't still making changes to balance out overpowered plays.

If you are playing checkers you can make whatever the hell rules you want. I don't disagree with what you are saying but your analogies are downright awful.

Yeah, we should compare it to a pizza delivery service instead of other games.

Are you making ridiculous statements because you are upset or do you really think your examples are anywhere near relevant?

People use the phrase "apples to oranges" to represent bad analogies. By your logic, since they are both fruit they are great analogies.

Nobody was saying they aren't still looking at GLB (in fact a couple of admins even said they were discussing GLB mainly in their recent meetings ITT). But the large focus from a coding perspective of course is on the new games. GLB left BETA man.

The game must evolve to survive. If it doesn't it will grow stagnant and die like so many other internet games before it.

This is what people wanted. (Not me fwiw) A stagnant sim in which people had time to evolve toward all the changes before any changes were made.

This is what people said they wanted.

Sometimes that's an important difference. What customers think they want doesn't always match up with what they actually want.

Look at KFC.

They started getting focus group data a few years ago telling them that customers wanted more healthy options on the menu. So, KFC added grilled chicken to their menu to try to please more people and bring in people who weren't already coming to KFC.

It backfired big-time. People who wanted healthier food looked at the grilled chicken, decided it still wasn't really all that healthy, and still didn't go to KFC. And the existing customers... merely seeing grilled chicken on the menu served to remind people how unhealthy fried chicken is, and some people actually stopped going to KFC altogether because of that reminder. And KFC's profits took a nosedive for a while.

Turns out the best way for KFC to make money is to just sell fattening food and not remind anybody of how fattening it is. By listening too much to what customers said they wanted, KFC got away from offering people what they actually wanted. And that's why KFC has recently gone back to emphasizing their fried chicken in their ads.

Too bad, too... I actually like KFC's grilled chicken better than their fried chicken. But I guess I'm in the minority.
