I have been on the Elvis since late season 1, and I can say that Vegas is a top notch team owner...if guys like him quit, then Bort really needs to sit up and listen!

Too bad he won't.

A boost to defense REALLY shouldn't be that hard to code when a team runs the same play over and over again...

My suggestion (while drunk and without putting TOO much thought into it)

Run one play 10 times - +3% boost to ALL attributes on the defense
Run one play 20 times - +6% boost to ALL attributes on the defense
Run one play 30 times - +15% boost to ALL attributes on the defense.

I think the bonuses are too large, but the idea would probably work. Try like 1/3/5...

Or it could be a sliding scale depending on how long it has been since you last ran that play after like the 5th time or something...

Forcing teams to use more plays would also help a lot with testing.

Bort needs to realize that not doing this makes the people who actually set up defensive gameplans really angry because they are being beaten by someone who doesn't even really need to know much about the game even though they committed 9 players to stopping the run.

while i think something like this is absolutely necessary, and i've been campaigning for it for seasons (see: mem offense), i don't think it should effect all attributes. players shouldn't get faster or stronger because teh same play is being run. give them a huge increase to vision, and a bit of an increase to confidence imo.

Root cause of both problems: blockers pushing defenders around with too much ease. I think a strength advantage should still mean something, but it might be better to take a little more time for a 300-pound, 130-strength OL to push around a 300-pound, 90-strength DL. This would make for fewer automatic yards per rushing attempt by the short-yardage back and smaller holes for the explosive back to try to exploit (meaning fewer successful big-yardage carries by the explosive back).

Hey Pain great post I've been thinking about his for a while now and I know Bort said that a players physical attributes will be factored into his overall build but I just don't see that manifested in the sim, particularly when it comes to tackling.

Take for example Larry Csonka (im not calling out or trolling or anything) but a 6'2 195lb HB should not be able to break 50 tackles in a game no matter how strong he is. He maybe pound for pound very strong but breaking a tackle of a 330lb NT (even with lower strenght) should not be that easy for a 192lb player (again it can happen but just not 50 times/game).

On to the issue of diminishing returns on running the same play too often, while I agree in concept there are instances where a team will run the same play over and over until the defense stops it and is some games the defense just wont stop the play. So IMO it is not as simple as just diminishing returns as a team on any particular day may not be able to stop a play. Take for example the Redskins of the 1980s every defense knew what was coming but they had a hard time stopping it regardless of what they did to prevent a John Riggins 50-gut.

For the sake of the sim though it maybe just easier to implement diminishing returns since it is the easier variable to handle.

You're fucking A!

Also, this power run game ruins stats, and IMO that is what the game is about for most players. Nobody but the powerback and the OL get good stats, and it makes the game shittier.

As far as "exploits", this game has been about exploits from the beginning, and the same no trophy motherfuckers bitched about them then. You should adapt your players, unless you're really just looking for attention, then by all means, carry on.

Give the boost to the football and mental skills - Tackling, Vision, etc.

My big problem, though, is that a huge pile of the O-playbook is garbage because it's all scripted to varying levels of build development. This makes it hard for to find enough plays that are actually executed reasonably well (and that fit your O-scheme) to really have variety in playcalling.

Sorry to see you go VB. We've had some good times since our BBB#6 days and it's a shame how things have worked out for the Flyin' E this season.

Best of luck in the future.
