I wonder how many of the teams leading their leagues in defense are having problems with contain?

Just means at lower levels the OC's either dont care, or havent implemented the new counter plays. There are ways to contain it, however it means sacrificing a pass rush possibly

+1 again. This is probably the biggest need for defense with counters added. I can't see how you could add them and NOT add this.

This suggestion was made and was need before Counters but now the need is greatly exaggerated. Make this happen for next season please

my SEA Pro team has some problems with it but not many

against good teams it cost us

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1701432&pbp_id=3974576

but sometimes it works like this
http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1701432&pbp_id=3978223 (note the extra CB there just in case)

http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1702909&pbp_id=6318859 (crashing safeties)

so as the defenders get better vision it is able to be avoided somewhat more

Hmm, seems like a lot of guys are having issues with it so I'll tell you the easiest way to shut down counters. Ready? Put someone in the flat zone. There, you have contain.

This does of course create a weak spot, but it's Bort's goal to keep us from setting on just one D anyhow, so I don't see anything else coming. Better put someone in the flat.

it doesnt always work as intended

You are not the only one who has tried to put people in the flats. Coming from successful DCs collectively we have tried everything

This is the kind of crap I'm talking about here. The SS is lined up way outside by the CB. Yet he commits inside letting the FB seal him opening up the lane to the outside.

The easiest way to get containment now is to shoot a DE out into the flat.

However, does that really resemble an actual football play?

I'm surprised Bort hasn't added a penalty to DE attributes the wider they get from the tackle box, like they have as the get farther away from LOS, like he added when creative DCs were dropping DEs into deep zones.

Really this is your answer. We are not talking about how to create a DPC to stop a counter play. This is suggesting that the DPC is flawed and needs to be corrected. Which you point out in the second part of your own post.

Now can we keep this thread focused on the needed change so GLB as a whole can move in a positive direction.

I didn't say it was flawed. I said it creates a weak spot, which of course could be exploited. I know what it is you want. A setting that says, cover the outside, unless nobody is trying to go outside, then stuff the run, unless your assignment is running a route or if he's blocking then cover this zone. I don't see that happening. I'm guessing Bort wants a risk reward going. It's what keeps games functioning.

Bumping. Even with the much improved ability to adjust the zone at the end of a DPC assignment, this option is still viable and would be very beneficial.

Counters are ridiculous. DCs need this to have a chance.

OP is really just asking for an EZ button...

NO, OP is asking for something somewhat similar to how football is really played. There is always a player assigned to contain the play from getting to the edge. And that dot would then be taken out of the play if it is a run up the middle so the EZ button thought just does not make common sense.

The offense was given a weapon and the defense was not given a legitimate answer.

The problem with this is that the player who has a blitzing direction would not cover a WR if it was a pass play. Unless you are going to allow a WR 2 or "run blitz" to a specific spot.
