If y'all think it's tough to pay for Lv 56 EQ now, wait until players start their downslide and we all have to start signing a new batch of Lv 53-56 guys who will be wanting Lv 56 EQ paid for.

so why do you gm your own team?

Meanwhile, many of them are allowing actual player roles to emerge, especially with regards to zone defenders, hard-hitting vs. coverage LBs/Safeties, a tad bit for offensive linemen (but not enough), and the HB positions (scat backs, power backs, etc.)
Blocking dynamics are the #1 problem with the sim right now. Base up 1v1 run blocking is actually fairly reasnable right now, imo. It is possible, in my experience, to build a defensive line that can be stout against the run - holding the line, drawing double teams, breaking blocks and making plays.
Base up 1v1 pass blocking is an abortion. There is simply too much of a exagerrated swing between the defender just running head on and bouncing off a wall, and the defender taking massive exagerrated loops that get nowhere anywhere soon. Pass blockers can "hook and pull" guys far too easily, also.
Blocking assignments on multiple plays are an abortion. There are way, way too many cases of O-linemen, especially G's, either letting people go by or outright ignoring D-linemen in favor of picking up blitzers.
The result is pass rushing that is 90-95% utterly ineffective, meaning it doesn't even put a clock on how long the QB holds onto the ball, whereas the other 5-10% the QB gets sacked, often by a D-linemen that was just turned loose for no good reason. Most pass rushing revolves around fiddling the line shifts and blitzer location in order to glitch the blocking assignments as fast as possible, and most successful passing revolves around avoiding the plays with terrible blocking. It should revolve around building pass rushers and blockers well.
Blocking is pretty much, imo, the #1 issue with getting the sim right/better. Really, all the sound and fury about 8 Special Teams TDs or what-not are fairly trivial balance issues. Blocking is not trivial, and is desparately important to making a football game flow right. It controls the running lanes and the "clock" on passing.
In the long run I'd like to have VAs, but right now it just creates too many problems that I'd rather not have it than going through all the mess and have a crappy sim. There are just too many over powering VAs without counters. Outside blocker gives a huge boost to blockers on pitch and screens, where is the counter for defense? Quick feet increases fake chances by 30% for elusive backs, where is the counter VA for defense? Power tackler increase the force fumble chance, where's the VA for HBs to hang on to the ball?
Most of the VAs gave a huge advantage to the offense right now, thus you see all these high scoring games. Defensive play creator is supposed to help, but it's too damn stupid and buggy. When I tell my LDE to cover the flat trying to stop the HB screen, he runs with WR1 down field. When I tell my ROLB to cover HB on pitch left plays, he will always run to the opposite direction first even though the run is coming his way.
Not to mention the CB coverage is so broken right now. How many times do you see the CB shoot way behind the pass trying to "intercept" and give up long TDs? Getting Ball Hawk is like getting a curse for CBs right now.
Getting rid of VAs for now until they get it working right will be a huge improvement for the sim, at least for this season. I think a lot of the changes made this off season actually improves the sim a great deal from last season, but these crazy VAs totally overshadows that.

1.Competition
-Playing against gutted teams is no where near as frustrating as playing teams that are 20 levels ahead of you. Put as much energy into making leagues evenly matched as you do avoiding us getting a few stat padders. Quite a few people are in a league where there are no CPU teams but there are 1-3 teams that are 20-25 levels over the recommended cap. This makes the entire season futile. There is no chance at having a shot at the championship. Encourage teams not to put an expansion team together and keep that unit together, that is what this community is built on. The lower tiers (A-BBB) need more tiers, more restrictions. Once you hit AA, most teams should be close in levels and everything should take care of itself, just a couple gutjobs here and there which should get rotated to the bottom level after a season.
Perhaps add a bonus to a team for a % of players all returning from last season ie. if you have 0-50% of the players from last year you get 0 bonus to attributes. 50-60% 1% to all, 60-70% 2% to all, 70-80% 3%, 80-90%, 4%, 90-99% 5% , 100% 7% bonus to all attributes for the entire season
or
Make Team Chemistry matter again you should not be able to sell every player off on your entire team and by playoffs play like a team who has been together for their entire career.
2. Non-attribute Build Choices
-Veteran abilities - Two options here, 1. Make an insane amount of VA's to choose from to increase the amount of diversity amongst the same position, or 2. Delete them.
-Special Abilities - Rework them, change them around, for example: What does Swat Ball have to do with being a pass rusher? (LB Tree) Wouldn't First Step be a much better choice?
or
When a player is created let him make his own tree's. EX
T For Pass Rusher Tree make 8 skills available for 1 pt ea and 2 skills available for 2 pt. Must pick 4 1 pt's and 1 2 pt. Make your tree First Step ---> Shed Block ----> Strong Base ----> Break Thru ----> Tunnel Vision (2pt). Give agents a great deal of control over their player.
3. Leveling
- Adjust QB auto-increases. Delete catching from Minor, or add in a play where a QB would need this (HB pass?)
- Adjust HB auto-increases. Delete throwing from Minor, or add in a play where a HB would need this (HB pass?)
- Adjust FB auto-increases. Add Speed to Major.
- Adjust OT auto-increases. Minor increase changed from TAK to SPD.
- Adjust C auto-increases. Add CON, AGI or STA to major to eliminate +1/+1 and re-balance centers.
- Adjust the rate at which exp is gained. Level 29 (Players 3rd Season) He should not be gaining experience at the same rate as a 9 year veteran.
3. Offense improvements
- More Plays or Offense PC - too few choices makes it easy for DCs to lock in on what plays are called and when.
- Scale down the advantage of the OTs, if he is well built to be a run blocker and he goes against an elusive well built DE, have the sim reflect this. Currently the OT just abuses the DE.
4. Defense Improvements
- Fix Zone Coverage
5. Finances
-Players equipment upgrades past level 40/48 are not only absurdly expensive, but they also offer very little in return. Why as a team should we put ourselves on the line for a few million $ so that player can have his upgrades for 1 season before he hits the season 10 wall?
-Add merchandise sales daily based on your fan support. Team's should have a huge amount of cash in excess to their expenses.
-Players need more to do with their cash. Owners need the cash to meet top agent demands. Their money should be spent on the players and stadium. All their cash should not be sinked into being able to afford equipment.
6. Fan Support
-The gains and losses cumulatively are too much. it should cap off after a 3-4 game win streak, and the negative effects to fan support should be drastically reduced. If you lose 4 games in a row due to a tough schedule and barely sneak into the playoffs, then lose that 1st round game. The effects on your fan support is devastating.
-Teams should not lose fan support for being kicked out of the playoffs.
-Teams should receive a boost in fan support for reaching the playoffs.

1. Finances need to be much easier at all levels.
This is because the leading cause of gutted tams or teams going CPU is finances. There are many other reasons but they usually lead back to a teams ability to make money for players and EQ.
Also Pro teams need a way to pay and equip higher leveled players. If they cannot do this we will see more high leveled player in lower leagues. Sorry, Bort. You cannot have your cake and eat it on this topic. I think I understand your plan from your words on GLB radio. The problem is your plan is flawed. You will not get a couple level 56+ players in AAA because Pro teams can't afford eq or salaries. Guess what AAA teams have the same problem so you will only see more level 56+ players in AA and A leagues if higher tiered teams cannot afford to pay a full roster of level 56+ players.
Remember this is a game that people of all ages play. Kids too.
2. At some point soon, the sim needs to be tested with all nerfs removed. This will give us an idea of what really needs to be fixed. Nerfs hurt the game as they do not fix problems they only hide them. Bringing old problems back to light on the test servers may help to fix current issues and prevent new issues.
3. A new forum template is needed but till then, hire somebody to read and summarize the forum discussions for Bort. Organization is needed. Topics like this are a great start.
4. Its too much work to follow Bort around in this game. We need answers from Bort but a better system in needed. The topics are to random and unorganized for anybody to know whats going on at all times. We need better guides but they are hard to keep up to date with all the changes. Again some system needs to be in place so we can all know the real answers to questions.

So why bother making suggestions? I love this game and will continue to play, but lets not pretend our suggestions are listened to. If Bort valued other individuals opinions he wouldn't be running a rapidly growing company by himself.....
Well, I was not going to post, as I do not have a lot to add, but I like the VAs, and do not think there is anything wrong with them. Bort & Co. did a good job scaling them down a bit this season, and they appear to be more realistic now (so far).
I would strongly agree with what has been said about finances. It is impossible to start an expansion team without having at least 2 seasons of slow building/losing badly and staying financially competitive by the 4th season. To try and expand the stadium, obtain a small amount of FAs, and buy some players their equipment, becomes a lesson in futility. I sit in my 3rd season as a team owner right now, and attempted to be competitive from the start. We missed the playoffs the 1st season, and had 2 road playoff games last season. I have almost every player on my roster in need of either level 24 or 32 equipment now (some needing both). I pay only minimum salaries (and minimum signing bonuses if needed at all), and many of my players were signed to 3 year deals during the expansion season. This should never be the case, an owner trying to just survive, and field a competitive team, while going broke. All of the time watching other teams run for 2 seasons or more with CPU rosters, just to build up their stadiums, so they can at least make it 4 seasons after filling out their rosters with human players. Something needs to be done to put more cash into the team's hands, like 15-20% more cash would be a nice start.

Most of the VAs gave a huge advantage to the offense right now, thus you see all these high scoring games. Defensive play creator is supposed to help, but it's too damn stupid and buggy.
The counters for the first two things you said are more complicated than picking a simple VA, but I think they exist.
The counter for Power Tackling is any VA that helps you break tackles, because the defender using Power Tackler has to not be using Wrap Up. In other words, take the vulnerability and run with it.

Sorry, then there is actually less hope of this thread making a difference than I 1st believed. This isn't complaining for the sake of complaining. Honestly, it's just painfully obvious that there is currently FAR too much complexity in this program and to pitifully little testing for Bort to handle. Look at the "improvement" to CBs backpeddal in M2M routes. Look at the "improvements" to VAs. Well more than 1/2 of Bort's "improvements" end up breaking something he hadn't accounted for.
That's not a rip on Bort. Frankly, I'm amazed that he's able to do as well as he does with such an overwhelming volume of vairables. What it is is a simple statement of fact. He can't account for all tha vairables and chases his tail around in cirlces, desperately trying to correct his latest "improvement," all the while making the sim worse than it was to start with.
The only solution is to peal away the fluff (unneeded vairables), fix his foundation and slowly and very carefully rebuild (add the fluff factors back in, one at a time, over an extended period of time). If he doesn't, we'll just continue reliving the repeating history of insanity. You just can't build a quality house without a quality foundation.

Where does one even begin?
1. Fix some AI subbing issues. As in if your OC can put in his receiving TE, I can set up against the run and vice versa.
2. Fix attributes. 120 speed not outrunning 95 speed is rediculous. Fast WRs need to burn CBs. Likewise, CBs with higher Speed/AGL respectively should rarely get burnt obviously coupled with side attributes/SAs.
3. Fix VAs. They're garbage. Some are good, some don't work, some are super human.
4. Fix SAs. See #3 for help.
5. Stop adding useless junk. I don't care if I can buy flowers for my Kicker if I can't even get my DEs to get pressure. Fix the mechanics of the game and stop adding pretty stuff.
6. Don't over complicate the game, which is what is happening with all of this side stuff.
7. Make some damn LVL1 Regular Leagues. I have been trying to get this for WEEKS. It's such a great idea and brings back the early seasons as well as LVL1 interaction.
8. Fix the basics. Get mechanics working properly so everyone has a chance. I've made lots of very useful posts on how to fix this, as well as MANY others. Read what we have to say and get something done.
9. Whether you like it or not, pretty soon we all need a respec.
edit: Nearly forgot, EXPLAIN STUFF BETTER. Stop making things such a damn mystery. The fact we don't even have clarification on VAs and SAs is complete and utter bullshit.

I'm just wondering why something as big as removing/retooling VAs wouldn't be put up to a vote for the GLB community.
You don't have to look very hard to figure out that the main issues are as follows:
1) Fix the economy by lowering the eq. costs and making it manageable for more than just the elite of the elite, unless you like people with an advantage getting MORE of an advantage and pissing off everyone else (I'm not pissed at the other owners in my league, but think I deserve to be able to pay my players their upgrades because I've been smart with money from day 1 when I bought my team)
2) Think about stripping away the VAs and fixing the base of the sim, specifically 2 aspects that deserve a ton of attention (zones and OT/DE interaction). After the sim is fixed, readd the VAs and fix VAs. Right now hazy a good chunk of Bort's customer base is confused and pissed off because of the percieved atmosphere in GLB where they make a suggestion and it goes on deaf ears.
3) Add FG replays and 2 pt conversions. This is long overdue...
4) Add onside kicks in 2 seasons, I don't want a glitched out version where a team gets 50% of the recoveries Tecmo Super Bowl style...but I'd say 5-8% recovery rate should be possible.
5) Maybe Bort (or anyone in the mgmt team) should think about putting out a weekly announcement to the players so we're not left completely in the dark on what's in the works. Searching through countless threads and forums to see a post by Bort or any testers on what's happening gets a bit old sometimes, and tbh a lot of people don't spend 5+ hrs on here to do the searching.
6) Maybe put in some stadium options. For example
6a) Dome w/Turf Surface - +1% speed to all players
6b) Open Bowl - +5% revenue from ticket sales + concessions
6c) Horseshoe w/Turf - +2% speed to all players, -15% revenue from ticket sales + concessions
6d) Stick with what you have now

1. Lower the cost of equipment. The prices for teams who are paying for 56 eq are through the roof, and even the most finanically sound teams will crumble because they cant continually pay for 56 EQ. Every team around 56 (or even 48 for that matter) will have to fork EQ out to around 45 players if they want to keep everybody happy....and the amount of money you'd have to pay for that is staggering.
2. More information on the 10 season decline. There is too much confusion about it. Some think your guys are automatically retired, others think you cant boost after season 10 etc. It cost me players last season, and im sure I am not the only team.
3. Fix the Zones. They've been absolutely horrendus through the entire existance of GLB and it hasnt been addressed. I dont know how to specifically because I dont know how to code, but I am sure somebody knows how.
4. Make the QBs lead the WRs again. Again, its in the coding and its not something I can fix personally. It worked fine in the preseason, but it doesnt seem to happen anymore.
5. Make Morale worth something. QBs that throw for like 20 TDs in a game end the game with like 30 morale. Thats not right. If I threw 20 TDs in one game, my confidence (aka Morale) would be through the roof.....not the floor. Morale should play an important part in this game imo. If teams are on a winning streak, they lose their morale at a slower rate than teams that are on a losing streak.
6. Make players tire easier. It'll take away those 100-80 games and will make depth an important part in this game, much like in any game. Depth wins championships, not a 3 line DT rotation with pumped up stamina. If they tire easier, the team with the best (or most) depth will win.

I disagree with #6 to an extent. Energy is important but not to the point where teams have 5+ DTs or 15 OL. Depth does not win championships in the NFL, quality depth does since every team has the same amount of players. The reason you see many of those 80+ point games is due to teams taking advantage of the system and having far to many players.
