In all seriousness... I think that Obama calling himself Muslim (mistake or not), is significant saying that he made such a big deal about calling himself a Christian. On top of the fact that we are in a war against radical Islam and their are more than a few Christians and Jews in this country.

Given that Obama has a muslim background and, if he were in fact muslim, it would significantly affect many people's perception of him and the desirability of an Obama presidency, I think it's a stretch to say this was a completely insignificant mistake. Even if you think it SHOULDN'T affect people's thinking, the fact is that it would and I'm sure you know that.

It shouldn't be fed to the press by ill-intentioned political pundits, I agree with that. But I don't think it was an insignificant political mistake that would only matter to far right wing crazies grasping at straws.

I don't see how that's unfair. The very basis of democracy is that the people get what they want, within certain bounds. People can vote for whomever they want and for whatever reasons. Everything you've said about what would happen if people perceived Obama to currently be a Muslim and such is pretty much accurate. I just feel that this is like one of those 3D Eye things that doesn't actually have an image in it and you've decided to sort of say that there's a unicorn there just because you think there should be one there.

Oh wow I take it back. Yeah, it's a total twist job. I thought Obama misspoke when he said "my muslim faith" but in context it makes total sense and he knew what he was saying.
