Now it's just an assload of math and spreadsheets and inputs/outputs and most people can't handle that level of dedication...

If you want to keep it complex then yeah go to 4 pro leagues. Then when half the people quit and stop making dots because they can't compete with the super-super nerds go to two pro leagues. Then just let DS play by itself because they'll be all that's left.

If you want to attract more people take it back to simple but still engaging and keep the pro leagues. if you're a new person you almost need a college course to catch up to knowledge in this game and even then you'll only survive if you get in a network I think for the most part.

This idea is fine but just treats a symptom rather than the actual problem with this game, which is that it's gotten too effing complex and convoluted for people to pick up and start playing so the user base is stagnant or declining as people run through their leftover flex.

So 8 is a magic number?

You disagree with 4 leagues...and didn't like what I said about cutting it down to 16 leagues of 16?

I don't think there is a magic number, I don't think it makes a difference.

This game is basically designed for computer programmers, people with that sort of tech background. It isn't easy to play and it's not easy to pick up and if you don't have a ton of time you can't compete at the highest level. Say what you want about "oh life isn't fair not everyone gets to play in the NFL" if you're paying and playing this game the highest level is your goal.

When the game was simpler than even lolcasual is now it was more enjoyable because even if the dudes with inside knowledge and calculator's were winning you still felt like you had a chance and even if you didn't at least it only took 5 minutes to say that you want to pass 33% of the time. Tons of great long standing teams have quit because gameplanning is an enormous job, I knew of a few GLB greats that were going to do the same this season if they hadn't found coordinators for next. Noone wants to play lolcasual as it stands because it's the pussy league. So people quit and the user/dot base continues to condense. That's why the mergers started happening and it's just going to keep going no matter how few leagues there are, as long as this game takes a phd in GLB to play.

IMO if you simplify it, some people who used to be owners decide they can do it again. New people looking at the game don't give up after two weeks because they can't find the information they need in the worthless FAQs or wiki. And people who play it don't mind telling their friends about it because they know it isn't a life-sucking money/time hole.

What sucks about that is that the only way to simplify things is to take away control and lots of people also dont want that.

And I know you were exaggerating to prove a point but it doesn't take any programming experience or a tech background to gameplan. But I do hear what you're saying about time consuming.

maybe my replies are like off topic or counter productive I just don't see what these ideas fix. There's a reason we used to have enough teams to fill all these pro leagues and now we don't.

I think it's a very vocal minority. But it also may be the biggest spenders. That's the shortsightedness I see from a business dev side of this site - Bert is loyal but hey, these customers are already here. If they've spent that much money they're not just walking away. The attraction for new customers is almost nil, though. On top of how time consuming it is like I mentioned before look at the FAQs and the wiki. When was the last time those were relevant? season 15? That used to be maintained by the user base and now noone gives a crap.

Right now, 8 leagues might be too many for the current amount of players. However as i said previously, there may be a big change in how GLB runs in the next couple seasons, which could potentially increase the # of players/teams out there. Even now the number of leagues coming up the ranks is bigger the younger you go. Obviously many of those teams won't make it but with so many people remaking players after APD (the first batch is in prep right now, and are 2 seasons away from regional pro at the end of this season) there is going to be another wave of players moving up the ranks soon.

I just hope that impulse changes like this will be looked at in the long term. I've seen a lot of well intended but poorly thought out changes over the 25 seasons i've seen here and just don't want this to be another one. If pro is going to fall apart without a consolidation, sure go for it. I've said it should probably be done in the past. But to do it now, months within a possible major change to GLB (coming out of beta), seems to be a bad time to do it.

If it were done, as i mentioned in my first post on this topic here, there should probably be greater movement down beyond just the bottom 1-2 teams per pro league+cpu teams. Perhaps pro leagues are too stagnant with not moving enough teams in and out to bring fresh talent into play there.

With rivalry points stacking leagues and forcing the best teams to play against each other all the way up the age ladder (and likely again in regional pro since all those teams will be building up rivalry points all the way up) you could have teams that are almost as good as the league champions, or lost due to one bad game in the playoffs or whatever, getting held back longer than they should, making it harder for teams to move up who are better than the worst of the pro leagues.

It needs to be thought out beyond just emotion and +1 fuck yeah do it comments.

Consider how long USA was considered the premier league, only because it was the first one. If you contract the leagues now and then open them in the future, how long do the new pro leagues- again assuming expansion is needed- have to suffer the stigma of being lesser, losing players to the 'better' pro leagues and so on before things stabilize. Make this change if it's well thought out, not just because it makes people feel good right now.
