No, but it would make sense to campaign against the law. This is what this past week has been about. There was a time when laws in this country were wrong. And you are acting just like the people did back then. Originally posted by 1950s dude

I don't think the current treatment of certain players is right, and I am speaking up against it. It seems like you are speaking against me for the pleasure of it or because you think anything Bort and DD have to say must be right because they said it.

Not necessarily. The color they had was NOT of their choosing. A person is born with certain unalienable rights.

Malachorn made a choice. The choice was not made for him.

Just like a felon made the choice to break the law, and therefore lost the right to vote.

So why are they having a forum ban?

So then we can agree that they should be completely banned from the site?

Given that the actions occurred before the TOS was written and we all were forced to agree to it, no I don't think you should game ban them. I think they should have full privileges returned to the them and all their future actions should be dealt with according the to published rules.

If only there was a rule that said you could lose forum privileges for abusing the PM, you would have a point.

Private Messages

* The private message system should not be used to spam other users with advertisements or requests. Repeated spamming will result in the offending account being banned from the site permanently.
* Do not use the private message system to send insults, racism, or personal attacks to other users.

Repeated improper use of the Private Message system may result in a permanent ban from the site.

So why are they having a forum ban?

If I killed somebody, and killing somebody may result in my getting the death penalty, I wouldn't be complaining when I get a life sentence instead.

If you are admitting that he broke a rule that could result in a ban from the entire site, and he is only getting banned from the forums, then I just don't understand what the problem is.

Bad analogy again. The felon had due process, and the laws were written before he broke them.

...that didn't even remotely make sense. Who's "he", what's "it" that should have been contained to the private forums, and why does violation of the public forum rules, most of which do not apply to public forum usage, justify private forum suspension?

Look at it this way. A strip club allows people to in private expose themselves.

However, if in public you decide to show those private parts you will be suspended from both public and private institutions in the form of prison.

Same thing applies here. By violating the Forum rules in the Public Forums, you have forfeited your right to post in the private forums.

Same post, differnet user. If the laws against murder and the use of the death penalty were written and published after you killed someone, they would not apply to you. Even then, you would have due process.

Seriously, can we stop making this about Mal please. This affects ALL forum suspended players, not just perma suspended, not just mal.

If they have separate rules for private forums then it stands to right they should not lose private forum privilege for public forum activity. Further more it makes little sense that Mods (not admin) can perform an action that would remove them from being able to use the private forums when they have (edit:woops) no jurisdiction there.

True. I'd agree with that.

However, there were still rules that were broken, and Bort and DD have the right to chose how the punishment is inflicted.

Since the T.O.S. that were in previous to the new "Forum Rules" were broken, he no longer has the rights to anything on the site. Them allowing him to continue playing, but without public or private forums is now their choice.

Private Forum rules only apply to THOSE forums. They are EXCEPTIONS not the rule.

By breaking Public Forum rules, you have lost privileges to the private forums. That seems pretty cut and dry.

Read this quote pyramid. You framed that argument, I responded to it, then you changed your argument.

I know its tough to stop mid stream but can we stop making this about mal. The topic was broadened back on the first page to include not just perma suspended players but all suspended players. I know this is not entirely your fault that we are fixating so heavily on mal, but i would appreciate it if we stopped debating the merits of mals banning.

Socratic irony my friend.

its not cut and dry because you just made that up though. Its not in the forum rules. I still maintain that I hope this whole situation was an oversight.

Well any users that are/have been/will be perma-banned or banned at all will have broken the rules, ESPECIALLY future breaking of the rules.

Where's that written down besides your posts? It's not in the ToS, it's not in the forum rules, the chat rules, my private forums or private forum invites.
