How important is confidence in the build of a LB? What does it do?

If your LB is big into the intimidation SAs (Growl, aura of INT, etc) then confidence plays a role in triggering the SAs. Also, if your LB misses a tackle or the offense scores a TD, his morale will take a hit and he will perform worse. Confidence minimizes the impact of morale loss in game.
I think the mid to upper 20s is a good estimate of where your confidence should be. Don't spend any points on it, though. Just train it for a while.

Also if you're a MLB the Defensive General SA doesn't really have an effect until confidence is at 25.

I actually feel like CONF is a huge factor in how your LB plays. As we all know, morale fluctuates constantly throughout the game. So to balance this out, and keep morale at a higher level confidence should be high enough that you are an impact on EVERY play. If you look at my LB stats the past few years, the training of it is essential. I'd actually say keep the CONF level on par with your actual level. This is just opinion though and I've had fantastic results with higher CONF.
