Thats my question. Is it because of the team tactics? If so what exactly?

My linebacker is supposed to play the run (individual tactics), but yet he drops back in coverage A LOT like 90% of the time even when the offense runs the ball. Why is that? I tell him to play the run so why does he drop back? Is it my "fault" or is it because of the team settings?

I think it's a vision thing - the more vision he has, the sooner he recognizes the play as a run and charges the LOS.

are you running a Zone or Man?
If Zone, he will run over to his zone and is slow to react to the run.

It's a team tactics thing. Your LB isn't set to play run defense, he's set to have a bonus to defending run plays. Big difference. Your LB is a good team player and dropping into coverage like the Defensive playbook says he should. Talk to your D coordinator if you think there is too much pass focus and not enough run focus on D.
