Valencia Billy Goats – 0 Frankfurt HEAT – 73
-Frankfurt guarantees themselves the #2 seed in Zeta with an easy win over the Billy Goats. Valencia LB Austin Box was a nightmare in pads, racking up 8 tackles (5 TFL) to lead what is becoming an imposing LB corps for the Billy Goats.
Game MVP: Frankfurt QB Randy Livingston (16/16, 216.5yds, 2 TDs) must have turned the Valencia D down to Rookie.
Paper Bag Award: Valencia HB Tyler Harrison (0 rushes, 0yds) had a stat line of 1 fumble, 1 fumble lost. Tsk tsk.
Bari Barracudas – 0 Multiple Scorgasms – 21
-The Scorgasm rushing attack got back in gear against the fading Barracuda defense, putting up 241.5yds for a 4.4ypc average. The defense was back in form as well, holding Bari to under 150 total yards. The Barracudas proved they will be a tough team in Season 5 with the upset over Rohrheim and will likely finish the season on a good note with a blowout of the European Assassins.
Game MVP: Multiple DE Tubba Bubba (4 tackles, 3 sacks, 4 hurries) completely shut the left side of the offense down.
Paper Bag Award: Bari OT Leonardo Franca (3 sacks, 4 hurries allowed) bent over and took it from Bubba.
Korb Destroyers – 51 Oxford Eagles – 23
-Korb gets a morale-boosting win going into their final, must-win game against Toledo. The 2nd ranked rushing attack in WEPL got back to their roots, rushing 53 times for 226.5yds. While the Destroyer defense stepped up in holding Oxford to a meager 2.5ypc, they looked shaky against the pass allowing two 2nd half TD passes and nearly 300yds through the air.
Game MVP: Korb HB Hot Runner (15 rushes, 64yds, 2 TDs) pounded the rock often and collected 4 first downs to go with his 2 scores.
Paper Bag Award: Korb HB Liquid Motion (25 rushes, 115yds, 2 TDs) looks impressive, but his 2 fumbles are worrisome to a Korb team that has been turnover prone lately.
Paris Musketeers – 38 DFools AllStars – 7
-Paris came out in typical Musketeer fashion and ran the ball with a nasty attitude en route to nearly 400yds of rushing offense and 4 TDs on the ground. DFools has the unlucky draw of Woodridge next week and will, unfortunately, finish the season with only one win.
Game MVP: Paris HB Nolan Akers (34 rushes, 207yds, 4 TDs) was the king of Paris’ top ranked rushing attack.
Paper Bag Award: DFools QB Shane Tessem not only threw an INT in the endzone, he missed the final tackle on what could be the play of the year in WEPL (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=85655&pbp_id=7649749).
Rohrheim Stampede – 9 Reykjavík Aggies – 42
-Rohrheim gives up the Dreamer’s Cup for the first time in a lopsided loss that only puts a further sour note on the season. The Aggies have clinched a playoff spot (I think?) with the win and look to be playing consistent ball for the first time all season. Reykjavik’s OL suffered a slight black eye, giving up 2 sacks and 2 hurries in the win, but controlled most of the game surrendering only two 3-and-outs. In serious contention for play of the year, Aggies DE Eric Cooper sprints 10yds downfield to force a fumble that CB Agent Ocho picks up and runs back over 90yds for a TD (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=85644&pbp_id=7645561).
Game MVP: Reykjavik HB Andre Rudzinski (18 rushes, 118yds) didn’t get in the end zone but was the catalyst for the Aggies offensive efficiency.
Paper Bag Award: Rohrheim OL. This unit surrendered 3 sacks & 9 TFL leading to an underwhelming offensive output of under 200 total yards.
MA Trolls – 33 Stockholm Meatballs – 10
-Assuring themselves of the #1 seed with the victory, MA proved once again why they are, currently, the class of Zeta. Balanced offensively with 213yds passing & 157.5yds rushing and boasting a defense that forced 3 INTs and held Stockholm under 200 passing yds. MA QB JJ Flicker is in everyone’s MVP discussions and he had another strong showing throwing for 207.5yds and 2 TDs on only 23 completions. Stockholm is likely in the playoffs (maybe guaranteed?) but a win against the struggling London Monarchs would get them in for sure. Meatball HB Just Win stepped up, averaging 4.3ypc and collecting 1 TD.
Game MVP: MA OL. No sacks or hurries allowed & nearly 4ypc, these guys are bad.
Paper Bag Award: MA QBs Tyrone Slothrop & Rydin Pine combined for 3 costly INTs that kept Stockholm out of the game.
Sandford, Gloucestershire Policeman Officers – 0 Rivals Mainboard Pimps – 225
-Nobody cares how many categories you’re ranked #1 in.
Game MVP: SGPO FS Rodion Raskolnikov might be the biggest stat padder in WEPL, but I love him for it.
Paper Bag Award: Rivals DE Mr. Bundy (1 missed tackle). Yep, he missed.
Oslo Berserkers – 13 Rotterdam Roughnecks – 42
-Rotterdam continues on their luxury cruise through Week 16. The likely destination is the playoffs but too much chaos in the rankings could push them out.
Game MVP: Oslo HB Edgerrin Jones-Drew (35 rushes, 132yds, 1 TD) continues to impress even in lopsided losses.
Paper Bag Award: Rotterdam OC. Not giving playmaking HB Pain Train 21 any carries is one of the worst coaching decisions of the year.
EDIT: I will NOT be doing a Week 16 preview or review, as I have little desire to write about 16 games. I will take that time to, hopefully, get a nice playoff preview written up.
EDIT2: I will only be doing write-ups about playoff games from here on out. Perhaps, as the playoffs advance, I might write about a key scrimmage or two (from the Zeta side only) but most likely only the playoffs. The good news is that, as the playoffs advance, I will be a lot more likely to do a PREVIEW and a REVIEW of every round. As I will not be reviewing the Week 16 games, I will be focusing on getting a Playoff preview up tomorrow.
