My team SanDiego Demolition is one of the best in our league easily. When we recruit we are very picky about sending our contracts and because of it, we have a team full of players with above average builds.(opinion)

We are the #1 run Defense and middle of the pack pass D. We have better players at CB than we do at DLine and LB so its been mind boggling.

Alot of the plays we give up are those where the WR catches the ball ontop of a CB or a CB and a Safety but we also seem to be just not playing the right defensive call at times.

We run alot of cover 2 mostly in a 4-3. We tried Cover 1 but I didnt think its been effective containing the WRs.
I am considering trying out some Cover 3 but havent seen it used so i dont know how effective it can be.

Is there anyone kind enough to help me get this ship straightened out? I would prefer to speak in PMs if possible but I know its a long shot finding anyone to give away some of their strategys. At this point I am not too proud to ask because I care about ym team and want to see it being successful.

Thanks.

Bort just made some changes today that should increase the effectiveness of deflecting passes (i.e. fewer PD are caught).

I think most teams are having these problems with pass defense - its' a sim-wide issue. You are likely a middle-of-the-pack passing defense becuase your opponents are often behind and have to pass a lot to try to catch up.

Cover 1 can help against TE - the FS is in the middle of the field, and the SS will double-cover the TE, along with the LOLB. If you are REALLY desperate, and very confident in your run defense, you can call an extra DB - i.e. nickel against 2-WR sets and dime against 3-WR sets. This should double-cover a receiver if you don't blitz, although from what I've seen that still doesn't do much.

Another way to go about it is just to blitz the hell out of the QB and rush his throws, not giving routes time to develop.

Last season great passing teams had good passing games...unless they went against a great pass defense. Bad passing teams couldn't get their passing game going. It made sense.

Now most any team can have a great passing attack. It's not uncommon to see a triple team and have the WR get a catch. Passing is just so much easier this season.

IMO your only hope to contain a passing team is to do Cover 1 or 2 Man Under. Blitzing a LB I've found helps too...even though he'll never get through to the QB he puts pressure on the QB and will ideally hinder his throw/decision. Just be aware of how many men you have in man coverage. Meaning if you run a 4-2 Nickel Cover 2 Man Under you have 5 players assigned to man coverage. So if they have 3 WR's, 1 RB and a TE, there are 5 possible receivers. Sending a blitz might leave a man open, etc. And in a game where triple teams can't stop a completion, well, you see what I mean.

I share your frustrations this season. I'm no expert but in my experience and watching tape of some of the pros, this stuff is your best chance.

Gieff and Reggie, thanks for chiming in. I was aware those changes were comming but was unsure of when they would actually come.
It does seem like almost anyone can have a great passing game this season but one of our first games threw me off.
We faced last seasons #1 passing offense, and held them to 89 yards of passing yards. So after that game, our expectations were much higher than they were now and every game after it seems to have knocked us down a step every time.
The cover 1 got us beat at times because like stated, even having a WR or TE triple teamed still doesnt stop them from catching the ball, seemingly effortlessly.
We tried bringing in extra CBs and it was uneffective, two CBs on the same reciever cover that reciever as if their the only man on him. meaning they both play the same way as they would if they were man up instead of one guy covering underneath and one over the top.

I guesser there reallyu isnt much one can do about it until Bort gets things straightened out. I mean, I dont care how good a WR is, if hes double covered, and both CBs are on him like white on rice, theres no way he should be making those catches if botht he CBs are solid.

Hopefully there will be resolutions in the near future because as of right now the passing game has free roam. The only thing that bothers em is I have seen a team stop our passing game dead, more than once, so im hard pressed to think its not possible.

Again thanks for chiming in guys its appreciated. Hope you guys find more luck stopping the pass then we have.
