Went a different route and am now:

2-3-3-1-1 in the speedster tree (including CE of course)

The reason I'm choosing not to soft cap speed is that I'd like to keep the numbers even. When I get my next equipment upgrade, I'll put all the points into agility and then raise speed, keeping them even.

I suppose I should have provided more information: Aside from drops my WR gets decent separation, catching about as many if not more than other WRs on my team in any given game(even though they have more speed; the trick is that they have less or even much less agi). He gets a fair share of drops but it's due to confidence, which I'm training and is too low to put points into without it feeling like a waste.

Thanks for the advice though.

I was really tempted to throw it into catching, but I don't want my catching to heavily outweigh my vision so I'm going to get that trained up some as well before doing so.

keeping the speed/agility is fine, but why not just soft cap speed now and get the points above the soft cap then get it evened up later?

Because I feel it'll hinder my performance, whereas if I raise something like route running (which I did last level) my already equally high speed and agility both see a boost. Not only that, it costs much less.

Currently, I'm dropping passes because of 1. coverage 2. confidence deficiency.
I'm training confidence.
Since I can't raise my agility any more without it being an unreasonable cost, and if I did I'd want to raise speed to keep them even to solve the coverage, the answer seems to be clear: SAs that provide separation.
Quick cut and head fake do that just fine, plus since I have equipment in the speedster tree increasing the two skills by two (putting them at 3) I've effectively gained 2 free skill points (since the cost of each went up and I retained the full point)

I consider speed and agility to be one stat. If you don't raise one, you shouldn't raise the other. /shrug

what's the point of this post then cause it seems like you had your mind made up before you asked the question

Diverging from 1:1 speed/agility won't break your receiver.

I was unclear on my decision when I made it and made my mind up later.
Though as for 'the point of this post', there probably wasn't one, considering all the community managed to do was remind me that there's a speed stat. kthx

Let's just say I was hoping for a shot in the dark - something I hadn't thought of considering I might miss something if I'm focusing too much on something else... But I assure you, I selected even speed/agi on purpose.

i dont think anyones saying even spe/agi isnt something you can try, i think theyre saying it shouldnt be below the cap even. which maybe is less true for wr than nearly anyone else, but i still cant help agree a bit.

The higher your agility, the better you will perform, especially against defenders with less agility than you.

That's the only "precise formula" in play. You don't get bonuses for having the perfect build; more stats equates to better playing. Sorry if I sound like a smart ass, but it's the truth.
