The battle for #'s 7 and 8 is about to get very interesting to watch if your above those spots, and very frustrating to be involved with if your one of the 6 potential teams fighting for a spot. After todays games, Virginia/Aurora/Chicago/Houston/Birmingham/Dallas could all be within one game of each other and fighting for two spots. Now Chicago is the one team that can throw a wrench into that prediction. If they can hold off the Hitmen, then Dallas falls out of the cluster.
Last weeks games:
HBB-Noles 46-3
Thunder-Dallas 29-10
PTP-Minnesota 82-3
LBDA-Bugs 71-0
Slugs-Chicago 38-21
Mighty- Houston 30-7
Virginia- Montana 31-10
Birmingham- Lakewood 89-0
The Elite 4:
Honolulu Beach Boys: Still standing atop the heap side by side with the Thunder. The Beach Boys still have a tough schedule left though. Long Beach, then its on to finish out the season against the Thunder and the 8-1 Vulcans from the East.
Timpanagos Thunder: The Thunder are still standing strong and have only two tests left in PTP and HBB since they drew the powerhouse Sheffield Sabres from the East....
Possum Trot Plague: The Plague have been impressive this season and look to continue their quest for gold. They are 1-1 against the elite and still have a showdown with the Thunder looming.
Long Beach Dub-Allstars: They face a dangerous game this week. If they lose to the Mighty they may fall out of the elite depending on how the game goes. Most likely they will win the game but its one of those games that has to be making Bullfrog at least a little nauseous.
The 5-6 seeds:
Eugene Slugs: A tough game looms for the Slugs. They should beat the Seminoles thrusting them back into the pileup, but should they lose, any chance for a home playoff game may be gone.
Mighty Chihuahuas: The Mighty are in the game of the Week, win and they stake a legitimate claim to be considered a top 4 team, lose and they fall dangerously close to that big pile of despair in the middle of the conference.
Now this is where the funs at:
Virginia George Washingtons: Virginia needs some help this week to avoid falling into the middle of the pack. They are going to lose today, plain and simple, but hopefully most of the teams below them will lose as well so that they do not have to worry about being on the outside looking in.
Aurora Seminoles: The Seminoles are clearly not an elite team, but they are a playoff caliber team. They have shown that they can win but if they want to keep that final playoff spot under control they need to beat the Slugs today. If not, they will be in for a long finish to the season.
Houston Toxins: 4-5 seems to be the popular place to be this season but god knows I wouldnt want to be there. These teams are going to have to fight tooth and nail from here on out. Its like some sort of handicap match in Thunder Dome. 6 teams enter, 2 teams leave....
Chicago Inferno: Chicago needs to get itself together quick or its going to be a bad ending. Dallas is hoping to even their records and take the tiebreaker over Chicago. This game has huge implications for both franchises.
Birmingham Bears: Another 4-5 team. Should win today but needs to continue to do so to climb atop the contestents for the last playoff seeds.
Dallas Hitmen: Dallas NEEDS, yes NEEDS to win this one. Not only would it bring them to 4-6 and keep them within a game of the pack but also pulls Chicago down to 4-6 and gives Dallas the Tiebreaker.
Next season looks better:
Montana Crow: Slowly turning things around, but not enough to compete yet.
Palmetto Bugs: Will look to the offseason to make some additions and come back and compete.
Minnesota Mountain Lions: I dont know much about these guys, because I have still never heard from any of them.
Lakewood Lancers:I dont know if next season will show any of the fruits of their labor this season or not, but come season 6 they should easily be a middle of the pack/low end team!
Matchup of the Week:
LBDA-Mighty
This one should be a good one. On one hand, there is a chance that Long Beach just blows them out of the water which would thoroughly draw a line between the top four teams and the rest of the conference. But on the other, I have a feeling that the Chihuahuas could steal this one if they gameplan correctly and come out on fire. I think this will be a great game and just have one of those feelings that this game is going to turn out differently than alot of people expect it to.
