We've tried to work the HB in the passing game and have had no success doing so...

Do you need to go a fair anmount of short passes?

Anyone tried this and (really) watched & enjoyed how this look like?


In my team's first game in which we've used AI, we've made a simple plan for 1st down: ball will be thrown either to WR (long pass), either to RB (short pass). It was just a test.


But, whenever our QB used second option, it was basically - pitch play!? No real forward pass.


Any ideas on this?


(Since we didn't have a single one forward pass to our RB in that game, we decided to quit with "short RB pass". We've got just pitch plays and that wasn't our intention, at all)

We've noticed the same thing... Perhaps it needs to the Medium pass to the HB?

Yep, same here. Short pass to HB results in a what amounts to a wide run. And usually a TFL because he's standing still when he catches the ball.

Med HB pass is the only way to involve them.

So, sicarius, if it's not a secret, where did your RB get the ball when you've played medium pass on him?

Most pass plays have the HB blocking or going to the outside for a dump (in which case he gets shadowed by the MLB and easily tackled). The dump passes are either designated short passes, or medium passes where the QB doesn't see anyone open and has the dump pass option on.

The only play where I've seen HBs really go downfield consistently is on designated long passes. Here's an example of a HB making a deep reception, and it was on a long pass. I honestly don't know why the QB thought he was most eligible, seeing as he was running through two defenders and has less than 20 catching. But hey, it worked

Despite our teams are at "different continents", and could only meet on the road to SpaceBowl, I appreciate your sincere answer Len67.

This may be known but if your playing against a team that is heavy on the blitz, the hb pass will work better.

We have a winner. If the team you play blitzes a lot, or if you look at this play, it will give you a heads up on the HB pass.
