(8) The State of Texas Domination (0-7) at Cleveland Buckeyes (0-7)-----At first glance, this battle of the winless might seem an even match. Au contraire, mon capitan!!! Cleveland has steadily been improving itself from the day it arrived in BBB #7 and this is where it begins to show. Although these two teams have identical records, they are not in the same class. Cleveland gets to open a can of whoop ass on Texas (and how often does a statement like THAT ever get made?)……….CLEVELAND-48 TEXAS-6
(7) Appalachian Lycans (7-0) at Roswell Invaders (1-6)-----Since vanquishing Richmond in the opener, Roswell has been lost. Six straight defeats by lopsided margins and now they get to face the intimidating Appalachian Lycans. Not a prescription for success for the Invaders. Appalachian wins this in a runaway. I’m not sure how, when or even IF it’s possible to salvage the season for the Invaders now...……..APPALACHIAN-70 ROSWELL-0
(6) Houston Armageddon (5-2) at Richmond Empire (0-7)-----Continuing this week’s theme of gross mismatches is the Armageddon/Empire matchup. Houston is within a FG of winning 6 straight games and has solidified itself as a playoff contender after a 1-2 start. Richmond continues to improve, but they’re just not in the same class as Houston yet. This one could get ugly….…..HOUSTON-62 RICHMOND-10
(5) Lincoln Freedom Warriors (5-2) at Baltimore Hustle (1-6)-----The good news: Baltimore comes off its first win in BBB #7 (Congratulations!). The bad news? The win was the obligatory massacre of the Domination. However, Baltimore is like Cleveland in that they are slowly but surely putting pieces in place to revive a team that was dead. There are still too many holes to hope to upset the hard charging Freedom Warriors now that they’ve put together two impressive wins in a row, but it’s their first year. Things are looking up in Baltimore....………LINCOLN-45 BALTIMORE-13
(4) Syracuse Samurai (3-4) at Saginaw Spirit (3-4)-----So, Syracuse and Saginaw Square off Saturday Spoiling for Some Sort of Sense Sorting out Standings and Cementing Seedings. (ok, I know Cementing doesn’t start with “C”, but it SOUNDS right!) These teams both have playoff aspirations but need to pick up a win to secure a more favorable playoff seeding. Syracuse has better talent, but hasn’t shown excellent utilization thus far. Saginaw has not played to its ability but has been close in every game. A good close contest of evenly matched teams but I think Saginaw is just good enough to eke out the win .…..SAGINAW-28 SYRACUSE-20
(3) The River City Ransom (4-3) at Sin City Showboats (4-3)-----This is like looking at a pair of elevators, with one going up, and the other going down! The question is, who’s in which elevator. For the past four weeks, River City has looked like it was headed straight to the penthouse until Louisville slammed the emergency stop. Sin City, on the other hand, has had its cables cut, losing three consecutive games, although to quite possibly 3 of the top 4 or 5 teams in the league. Which will prevail and resume their climb to the top floor of the conference? Which will continue a free fall to the basement and GLB Doom? How long can these stupid elevator analogies continue? Well, the left side of the Rive City defensive line is a bit weak (two L19’s), while Sin City’s LG is L25 and the LT is L24. Three guesses which unit will win that battle (and if you can’t get it right with three guesses when there’s only two choices, you need to just quit and curl up in the fetal position) That matchup advantage should be enough to give them the edge---I think...……..SIN CITY-24 RIVER CITY-21
(2) JAX BEACH JUGGERNAUTS (4-3) at Louisville Baby Kittens (6-1)-----Behind the trio of L25 QB Dick Pepper, L26 RB Stefano C. Sharp and L27 WR tyrone shoes, Jax Beach has overcome multiple inactives to put together four consecutive wins. Yet again, the schedule conspires to confound the Purple Predictor as all four came against lower tier teams. Louisville has no such problems. They simply beat whoever shows up, with a single glitch in their perfect gilded world. All is right in OHIO this week as Louisville wins again, sending the Juggernauts home to contemplate whether they are the 0-3 team that started the season, or the 4-0 team of the recent past..…..….LOUISVILLE-63 JAX BEACH-17
(1) GAME OF THE WEEK: Red Bank Thundercats (6-1) at Atlanta Purple Penguins (7-0)-----Last season, it was the Thundercats that sideswiped a 17-0 Purple Penguin squad in the second round of the playoffs by pounding the Penguins with the running game. After the game, the Defensive line for Atlanta was exhausted, prompting Coach Pendleton “Penn” Gwynn to make the call to the front office and ask for a more active recruiting effort—especially for the defensive line. His prayers were answered as the Purple Penguins Procured Players like Captain Weinke and Broken Ankle to shore up their Defensive Line into one of, if not THE premiere group in the league. Red Bank has the best and most balanced running tandem in the Eastern Conference in L22 Druce “Thor” McMannus and L20 Marquan Tillis, the #2 and #3 rushers in the league (again), but they now have the added dimension of their improved receiving corps. Will the Thundercats recipe for success cook up more trouble for the Perplexed Purple Penguins? Or will the Pleas of the Purple Penguin Population be answered Positively? I think these two teams may well meet again in the playoffs later this year, but for now, Round One goes to Atlanta..……..ATLANTA-33 RED BANK-14
OK, sorry the PPPP was late this week---I just hate it when real life intrudes on GLB---but I’ll try to get the next post out in a more timely manner. To battle, boys!!!
