Europe East Pro Power Rankings
created by sawedust

INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Week Seven edition of sawedust's Europe East Pro Power Rankings, brought to you by EA Sports and Madden NFL 09.

Quite a few great games and several upsets this week in Europe East Pro, shaking up the power rankings and giving us a look at a new top ten for the first time since Week Four.

For those of you who are new to the sawedust Power Ranking system, here's an explanation of how these rankings have been set up:

The following statistics have been broken down into two parts: Overall Season and Last Four Games. The "Overall" portion takes into account a team's performance over the entire season. The "Last Four Games" portion takes into account a team's recent performances. By using the L4 in my stats, I am able to accurately gauge how well a team is currently doing (if players were signed/released, etc). Anyway, here are the stats used...

Win-Loss
For the most part, winning is everything. More wins equals more points in the rankings.

Strength of Schedule
This determines the level of opponents a team has faced.

Margin of Victory
There is no room for sympathy in GLB. Blow your opponents out in order to move up in the rankings.

Points For/Against
This gauges the overall strength of a team's offense and defense.

Miscellaneous
Players, tactics, etc.

So with that said...

Here are your OFFICIAL Week Six Europe East Pro Power Rankings!

THE TOP TEN

1. Barger Hill Burglars (7-0), 50.533
Barger Hill remains at the top of the sawedust Power Rankings for another week, extending their reign over Europe East Pro to four weeks straight. BHB is tied for the seventh-toughest strength of schedule modifier, at 1.545. Having a schedule that difficult and still finding a way to remain undefeated is quite a feat; five of the six teams with tougher schedules than BHB have a losing record. BHB's tough schedule continues with the Red Army Regulars up next.
Previously ranked: #1 (same)
Last game: Win at Washington Chairmen (4-3), 48-14.
Next game: At home vs. St. Petersburg Red Army Raiders (6-1).

2. Dubai Lightning (7-0), 44.72
Dubai pulls off the huge win, breaking Stalingrad's 21-game winning streak that dates back to Season Three. Many expected Dubai to have trouble against SGA, but they proved otherwise. Dubai added insult to injury and stuck a nail in the SGA's coffin, deciding to throw for a meaningless TD up 30-23 with five seconds left in the game. Dubai wants to make sure that they get the respect they so longingly want. There's no better way to do so than to run up the score on the Season Three Pro champions.
Previously ranked: #3 (+1)
Last game: Win at Stalingrad Gryphon Army (6-1), 37-23.
Next game: Away at Scotch Cocks (6-1).

3. Prague Punishers (7-0), 43.185
The final undefeated team left in Europe East Pro, the Prague Punishers haven't been challenged since Week One, where they barely slid by the Cocks. Prague but a dampener on Cincinnati's call for respect, beating them handily 49-10. Prague is a scary team right now, having an undefeated record while their roster is unboosted for the most part. They take on a (slightly?) demoralized Gryphon Army next week.
Previously ranked: #4 (+1)
Last game: Win vs. Cincinnati Tigers (3-4), 49-10.
Next game: At home vs. Stalingrad Gryphon Army (6-1).

4. Scotch Cocks (6-1), 35.689
Despite Malachorn's constant complaints that his own team is overrated, the Cocks find themselves moving up the ladder with a 49-13 win over the Greek Fire. After blowouts of Transylvania and Moscow in previous weeks, this win looks like the Cocks were feeling a little stiff, yet too tired to bang hard. A meeting in Week Eight with Dubai should give them may give them a much-needed beating, but we'll see how things turn out.
Previously ranked: #5 (-1)
Last game: Win at Greek Fire (2-5), 49-13.
Next game: At home vs. Dubai Lightning (7-0).

5. Stalingrad Gryphon Army (6-1), 34.258
One of the biggest surprises comes in the form of a Stalingrad loss to the Dubai Lightning, 23-37. Earlier in the week Stalingrad proclaimed their defensive superiority over the league, stating that they had not allowed more than 20 points since Season Two, a span of 35 games (including scrimmage games). A loss of this magnitude could rattle the Gryphon Army, who now find themselves facing third-ranked Prague and fourth-ranked Scotch in their next two games.
Previously ranked: #2 (-3)
Last game: Loss vs. Dubai Lightning (7-0), 23-37.
Next game: Away at Prague Punishers (7-0).

6. Dubrovnik Destroyers (6-1), 33.043
Alpha's second most powerful team according to the sawedust Power Ranking standards, the Destroyers remain at number six this week despite their destruction of the East Alabama Brain Smashers. Dubrovnik and seventh-ranked St. Petersburg are similar in which both teams have had extremely weak schedules thus far, which might explain their 6-1 records this early in the season.
Previously ranked: #6 (same)
Last week: Win vs. East Alabama Brain Smashers (1-6), 104-3.
Next week: Away at Kazan Golden Horde (5-2).

7. St. Petersburg Red Army Regulars (6-1), 31.057
The Red Army Regulars find themselves at the seven spot this week, two up from last week. With a 67-0 shutout win over the New York Knights, St. Petersburg has great momentum going into next week's game at Barger Hill, which will be the Europe East Pro Alpha Game of the Week. The only knock on St. Petersburg? Their strength of schedule is rated 32nd in the league. Dead last.
Previously ranked: #9 (+2)
Last game: Win vs. New York Knights (1-6), 67-0.
Next game: Away at Barger Hill Burglars (7-0).

8. Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (5-2), 26.004
As predicted last week, Lafayette moves into the top ten for the first time this season with a decisive victory over the Chernobyl Mutants. Dismissed early by critics as non-deserving of being a Pro team, LRC has strung together four straight wins by a combined score of 329-17. However, those four wins have come against poor teams (Leningrad being a "maybe" exemption). A test comes in the form of Bora Bora in Week Eight. Pass, and LRC is legit. Fail, and they might drop out of the top ten.
Previously ranked: #11 (+3)
Last game: Win vs. Chernobyl Mutants (2-5), 72-7.
Next game: Away at Bora Bora Brawlers (5-2).

9. Kazan Golden Horde (5-2), 22.055
Kazan slips a spot with Lafayette's move into the top ten. Currently the fourth-best team in the Alpha Conference (according to sawedust Power Ranking standards), Kazan has held strong in their first seven games. The only pushovers they've had were Hungary in Week One and Minsk this week, although the Koats put up a little fight. Kazan faces a true test in Dubrovnik next week. A win there could catapault them to top five status.
Previously ranked: #8 (-1)
Last game: Win at Minsk Koats (1-6), 38-10.
Next game: At home vs. Dubrovnik Destroyers (6-1).

10. General Patton's Demon Brigade (5-2), 21.714
Nice victory for the Demon Brigade this week, a 26-23 win over Vilnius. The Demon Brigade were able to put it together when it counted, racking up 13 in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning field goal with 25 seconds left on the clock. This game should very well boost their confidence heading into the next two games, where they face the Washington Chairmen and seventh-ranked St. Petersburg in successive weeks.
Previously ranked: #10 (same)
Last game: Win at Vilnius Maulers (4-3), 26-23.
Next game: At home vs. Washington Chairmen (4-3).

CONTENDING FOR A TOP SPOT

11. Helsinki Hell Raisers (5-2), 19.484
Helsinki jumps a spot this week with GCP's loss and the Hell Raisers' own blowout of bottom-feeder Szolnok Soldiers. Helsinki has faced very poor competition in the last three weeks, and has another game against Chernobyl next week that will continue that trend. However, they'll only have two easy games after that for the rest of the season. Let's see if they can pull off a win or two in the upcoming weeks and push for playoff seed.
Previously ranked: #12 (+1)
Last game: Win vs. Szolnok Soldiers (1-6), 122-3.
Next game: Away at Chernobyl Mutants (2-5).

12. The Geriatric Couch Potatoes (5-2), 17.601
A very disappointing loss for The Geriatric Couch Potatoes this week, confident that they would have pulled off the victory with ease. However, a strategic boost by the NFL Fanatix threw the Spuds off their couches and cost GCP a spot in the top ten. Teams may be attacking GCP's deep ball defense after the Fanatix exposed the holes. Look for GCP to take their anger out on Hungary next week.
Previously ranked: #7 (-5)
Last game: Loss vs. NFL Fanatix (4-3), 20-38.
Next game: Away at Hungarian Thunder Hogs (0-7).

13. Bora Bora Brawlers (5-2), 16.304
As expected, the Brawlers beat the Silesia Miners with ease, 56-13. Other than the NFL Fanatix, there were no other teams below them that would have an argument to jump up into the contender spot. Also, the Silesia game didn't prove much that would have them jump up a few spots, therefore BBB remains at 13 for another week. They could jump into the top ten with a victory over Lafayette next week.
Previously ranked: #13 (same)
Last game: Win at Silesia Miners (1-6), 56-13.
Next game: At home vs. Lafayette Rajun Cajuns (5-2).

14. NFL Fanatix (4-3), 12.844
A huge win for the NFL Fanatix this week, moving them into a contender's spot after defeating former top-ten team The Geriatric Couch Potatoes. NFL took advantage of the GCP defense and torched the Spuds through the air. Wide receiver Sid Aluicios had the best game of his career, recording eight chatches for 218 yards and two scores.
Previously ranked: #18 (+4)
Last game: Win at The Geriatric Couch Potatoes (5-2), 38-20.
Next game: At home vs. Vilnius Maulers (4-3).

19. Cincinnati Tigers (3-4), 1.334
20. Greek Fire (2-5), -4.63

There you have it, your OFFICIAL Week Seven Europe East Pro Power Rankings, brought to you by EA Sports and Madden NFL 2009.

PREDICTION WINNER

Seeing as how there was limited replies to the power rankings this week (compared to EE AAA#2, where they'd have flooded the thread immediately), the award goes to Randy03Texags for this lineup:

1. Dubai (-1)
2. Barger Hill (+1)
3. Prague
4. Scotch Cocks
5. Stalingrad
6. Demon Brigade (+4)
7. Lafayette (-1)
8. GCP (-4)
9. Kazan
10. St. Petersburg (+3)

BONUS: NFL, at 14.

Four out of ten is pretty good at this stage. Bonus for placing NFL into the top 14.

Thanks for participating, Randy. (That's just about it, sadly )

Your team will gain an extra .001 points in the power rankings next week!

Now... DISCUSS!
