I ran through the replays of today's game. Once again, my "evasive running style" equated to running in a straight line straight into traffic!

I noticed that our fullback also ran "hey diddle diddle, straight up the middle" like my CB does BUT he faired better by blasting through tackles.

My speed/agility and Vision are vastly superior to his. But there is a 30 point difference in strength.

Right now my CB/21 has Speed 67, Agility 50, Vision 45, Carrying 26, Confidence 21 and Strength 20. Speed and Agility are at soft cap.

I have 1 point in Super Vision, 3 points each in First Step and Change Direction and 5 in Return Spec.

I am thinking that maybe Strength and Super Vision are where I should start investing points. I am training up Jumping and Carrying.

Am I being stupid here, and my points are better spent elsewhere, or will this help?

I know that a lot of Returners are complaining about the NON-evasive running style that seems to be the trend in CB's these days. Unless Bort comes out and says that it is a bug, I am wondering if maybe spreading the points out will help.

try using combo as running style, and they need a tactic about which side you wanna go up when returning a kick or punt Left,Middle,Right

My once awesome KR/PR CB is now a pile of crap. He runs directly at the nearest defender and immediatly hands him the ball.

3 fumbles in three games and I had put my equipment on carry and trained my strength to near 30.

He is now sitting on the bench in favor of our TEs and RBs.

Awesome.

That is what I fear - becoming usless because I specialized in Returning.

my CB isnt a KR or PR...i even raised my rtrn spec a little...is it just a random the the AI coach chooses? i try to train my speed when at all possible...but latly i use to much energy in the game to afford any training on it

i got a newly made CB in da D-Leagues( http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=815323 )and i was wondering how to get him to return kicks and/or punts. any suggestions, or is it pointless until you get on a human team?

I think the CPU owner chooses who the fastest DB or WR is to be KR/PR so just put all your points in speed if you want to...i just threw 2 CB's and a FS into d leagues all points into speed, and they're all KR'ing.

In D Leagues - The fastest player is the KR. The strongest player is the PR.

I tried Combo and haven't noticed a difference yet. But I will be building my Strength up - with Super Vision second. I am training Jumping, so I won't be a one-trick pony as my CB is used as a CB3 on occasion.

____________________ EDIT _______________

I was looking to see if maybe there was something I could do to change how my CB returns the ball and I went all the way back to basics and found this...

"Carrying - Don't want to fumble the ball? You better practice your holding ability. The better your Carrying skill, the less you will lose the ball from a good hit. Carrying will also help you make moves to avoid or break tackles."

http://goallineblitz.com/game/forum_thread.pl?thread_id=125

It is the last line - "Carrying will also help you make moves to AVOID or break tackles" - that got me thinking (and being a newb I could be way off) that maybe Carrying is at least of equal importance to Vision (if not more) when it comes to avoiding tackles on a return.

So, veterans, please chime in and confirm or deny, please.

I noticed ever since the latest update that Bort did, well the one at the beginning of the season anyhow, that my player's vision is horrible. He more or less runs straight ahead regardless like said above. This shouldn't be happening with vision over 40. It has to be a bug of some sort.

Here is the thread that concerns that issue...

Honestly, it seems like Return Spec is broken.

It also appears that a few folks belive that "Elusive" running style is broken as well. One person reported better results using "Power" running - even with a strength of 20.

I will be trying that in today's game. Last game I used "Combo" and it didn't make much difference.

If indeed this is a bug, it may be that RB's will be better at KR/PR than CB's since they are better equipped to break tackles in a power run situation.

I don't really have a problem with KRs running in a fairly straight line, it is after all the fastest way to get from point A to point B, and you need blocking to do anything. They typically cut more once they get past the first wedge.

What I want to know is what exactly Return Specialist does. When I was a noob in both the literal and figurative sense, I stacked my new CB with return specialist, because I intended him to be a returner first, CB second, and I honestly don't know if it makes a difference. The SA description says it's "VERY" important to returners, but do they ever fare better than other RBs or WRs of the same level with the same stats that don't have access to that ability?

I know of my own player with 8 in RS and another player high in RS and we can't do jack against any kind of a good team. We in fact do worse than a typical speed WR or RB, and now in season 4 we're certainly doing worse than power rushers.

I know it's not going to happen, but I would love to see just what exactly Ret. Spec is doing. It says it adds to tackle avoidance, speed, and agility, but it must be very minute because I have a better chance returning an interception for a TD with 10 defenders and no blockers than I do running back a kick.
