I'm only level 2 at the moment, but I am curious as to the importance of speed if I want my receiver to be an over the middle, possession receiver. My plan is to pump AGI until softcap, then go catching, jumping, and vision (with the occasional point going into stamina) while training strength and speed. Have you seen any receivers that have done this and have been successful? What would you suggest after softcapping AGI?

I am a level 4 with soft capped agility and have only 1 catch in 4 games. I really don't get any targets. I am getting playing time, so eventually I will be decent, but it might take a while. Once again everything else is pretty low, speed is at 25, but i am not getting the targets which makes me think that agility over speed is not the way to go for a receiver. I think a equal amount might be good, but throwing a ton into agility has not payed off for my guy.
just my 2 cents, take it how you want

You have to remember that when you do it like this , softcapping things early on , you WILL suck !
You can't expect to be good at level 4 , wait at least 10 levels then tell me how you're doing
To OP , I'm not sure you should wait so long to softcap speed . I'm doing the same thing with a CB , going to softcap agility , vision then speed . If you cap all the other things you will get a WR that has a massive acceleration only to get to a very low topspeed .
My suggestion: Softcap agility and either catching or vision and then go for speed .

Also stop putting anything in the SA's, dont even think about them for a long time. When your a lower level, they aren't really affective. They work off of your other skills, and if they aren't up, then SA's are useless. Also have you considered a slow build for him. You save up your SP, and keep training. The higher the skill the less you get for training them. So as long as you don't mind having great stats now, it would pay off in the end because you would have more than the avg. person at the same lvl.

My receiver has that build, seasons 1-3 he was solid and consistent. This year he hasn't done so well, Bort just put in some updates so after a couple games I'll chime back in here and let you know.

Even possession WRs in the NFL have to be fast. I'd suggest softcapping agility, then speed, then go from there. You still need things like catching, and having more agility then speed could pay off, but you can't be a fast as an O-lineman and expect to be a star WR regardless...
Also, if your going to work at slowbuilding/softcapping things don't expect your WR to be any good his first season. Thems the breaks.

This isn't really true, you probably shouldn't spread around false information, just because you believe it to be true.
Not all SA's work off of other attributes, that's just false.
There are SA's that are very valuable at any level and are very much worth it to put points into.

Route Run and First Step are both very good to put into, even early.
Personally no matter what type of receiver you want to have, by level 20 I'd suggest at least 60 speed and 40+ agility. Or maybe just 50/50 but either way softcap both.
People will tell you catching is an overrated skill, don't listen to them. Same with confidence. Just train strength and try not to put too many SP into it, it can be a very useful skill against weak corners.

Last two games stat line, 15 receptions, 271.5 Yards, 3 TD's. Started the year very badly and have been tearing it up lately. I have 55 speed 65 agility. A Wes Welker type build. Works if your on the right team.

And quick cut. First step, like many other SAs isn't in effect during every play, only when it triggers:
First Step
"Increases the chance of the skill working, and the boost to acceleration"
vs
Quick Cut
"The angle at which the player can make the cut increases"
Route Running
"Increases the bonus toward running routes"
Sticky Hands
"Increases the bonus to catching passes"
The prior obviously says it doesn't work all the time,
the latter say they are in effect and more skill points in them make them even more effective.
When people say, "the first two SAs in either tree" what I take from that is Quick Cut from speedster and the first two in posession.
Not that I'm saying SAs that aren't active all the time aren't effective... Obviously if it isn't active all the time, when it is, it's going to be something noticable and very helpful. In my opinion, you just need lots of points in those specific SAs to really get the benefit you're looking for.

Perhaps that was to discourage others from building a decent player? Not that we'd ever have misinformation on the GLB forums.
