Dragon's Lair (AP) - After demolishing the self-proclaimed 'greatest show on turf' in the first round of the playoffs, the Jersey Dragons now have their sights set on the #2 seed in the conference, the Mekong Monsoon. The Monsoon will come into the game with their confidence high after going undefeated through the regular season games and a decisive win over the Shanghai Smoke in the first round of the playoffs, however, Dragons coaches are equally confident that the Monsoon can be beat.
"Sure they can be beat," Head Coach Bill 'The Bull' Horn said at the press conference directly after giving the South Brunswick raiders a brutal beatdown (40-7). "There are weaknesses to the Mekong games, and we are pretty sure to find them before the game. I believe we will be able to shut them down on defense as well as putting up scores on offense. They're a very good team, though, so we will need to work hard to find the weaknesses that are undoubtedly there."
On paper, the teams look very well matched, with the Monsoon having an edge in the kicking game, which might come into play if the game is close in the final minutes of the game.
"Yeah, they've got a good kicker," head coach Horn said. "But we're confident in the abilities of Freddy (Adu) even though he's struggled at times during the season. If we see Freddy struggle early in the game, I guess we'll just have to score more TDs instaead of relying on FGs."
To score TDs, the Dragons will look to QB Go Real Long to lead the high-powered offense of the Dragons against the good defense of the Monsoon, something coach HOrn doesn't mind at all.
"Listen. GRL has been able to pick apart defenses most of the season, and Shimmy has been running riot with the help of our awesome offensive line, so I don't have any worries."
On the question of the efficiency of the Mekong offense, coach Hicks had only one thing to say.
"I'm going to say this real clear and real slow so you can understand it, okay? It's a matter of simple numbers. We'll score more than them. That means that after the game, we'll party for a while, and then go back home and prepare for the Conference Championship game. That's the bottom line, folks. I'm outta here."
With those words, coach Horn left the press conference and headed to the jubilant Dragon locker room, where the players were still celebrating their dominating victory over the South Brunswick Raiders, who will be watching the rest of the playoffs from the comfort of their own homes if their owner allows them to do so.
