I was thinking about putting my punter and kicker in part of the kickoff return special teams to get them extra plays but I realized that we don't have the ability to choose our punting units.

Correct me if I'm wrong but the kickoff special teams uses the same players for the punt special team. So when the punt unit comes in, is my punter going to be a blocker or will the sim be smart enough and just grab someone else to fill in the blocking spot?

Has anyone been successful with putting their kicker and punter as blockers in the special teams? If so, should I just have 11 players in my DC so that I don't run into any problems for the punting units?

No, do NOT put your kicker/punter in on special teams. I saw a team recently that did this and the sim put their QB in as punter the whole game.
