How much speed do I need at DT? I'm up against the Soft cap on strength and agility. Tackling is at 40. Where should I spend my 15 SP, with the changes in speed does it make sense to stay away from there? Here's my build. http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=101138

Vision for sure.

Max, thanks for sharing. I also posed this question in the rate my player forum. A couple of posters there said that DLine General and strength are the way to go. I think I'll split it between those three.

I'm just starting to build a DT for a slow build team, so don't take too much stock in what I say. However, it just doesn't make sense that speed should be important for a true NT. THeir job is to clog up the middle and keep 2 offensive linemen busy while the linebackers slip through and make the tackles (yes, I'm a bitter guy). I can see agility because NTs need to have the quickness to beat the o-line and get to the QB. However, quickness and speed aren't the same thing. I suspect that Bort will realize this at some point and make adjustments away from speed.

So, I agree with Max that you don't need speed and vision is as good a place to build as any

That was my original thought as well. I had a teammate suggest speed and I thought I'd get some other opinions. DT's aren't going to have to run 40 yards to make a tackle. It seems like that's what Speed is now intended to do. Agility will get him off the line and to the qb.

I would do this:

1) Get STR to a natural 60
2) Get AGI to a natural 60
3) Consider increasing Break Through

If you are getting flagged for lots of penalties in these scrims, maybe you could consider a few points in vision, but really, I've seen REALLY good DTs/NTs with lower than that. Your vision is fine.

Speed isn't a horrible idea. You will increase your chances of making plays behind the line of scrimmage with more speed. And it only costs 1:1 unlike your other important abilities. 40 speed wouldn't be bad, and there are some open NT builds out there that are doing some real damage behind the line of scrimmage with 40ish+ speed (STR and AGI are already capped).

I would definitely train speed. Seems to be the difference between getting a sack or hurry. I have good agility (maxed to 1st soft cap) and even in the scrimmage struggled to sack the QB, but pretty much dominated in every other way.

only train speed if your DT is actually getting past the blockers. If he isnt you need to train something else to make that happen.

Speed of 40 for a DT is a waste. 20-25 will do you very well. My DT has a 16 and got 2 sacks in half a season against competition 10 levels above him and had 1 already in the preseason. Your so close to the QB that you're never going to accelerate to a 40 speed.

My level 17 DT has 40 speed and led his team in tackles in the preseason game.

I completely disagree. I don't want to get in to too much detail really. Just know that there are many ways to build a very good DT/NT.

how fast is a QB going to be? No faster than 20 speed, I'd say. Once you break through the O-Line, chasing him down isn't going to be that hard to do.

Exactly and of the 2 examples given the first DT had 2 levels on the guard he ran over (16 vs 14 so he had an eqipment edge) and the second had an 11 level advantage. you got the sacks was running over the OL, not running faster with an extra 15 points of speed for 5 yards. I doubt you even got up to max speed.

Also, both examples looked just like the one my DT got (running only 12 plays) yesterday against a guard of +2 levels. And, my DT currently only has a 16 speed.
