Pre-Season (Day -4)

42
Minnesota Skulls
Yet to be defeated in the regular season, but Marty Schottenheimer when it comes to the play-offs. The Skulls had a few losses this off-season but appear to have replaced them with strength and few would predict anything other than a first place in the conference this season... Will they lose a game though on route to the playoffs?

39
San Antonio Rahls
Rone's boys are well respected around the league and rightfully so, they have been strong since Day 1 Season 2 (1 for us BBBers) and look to have retained all their strength heading into Season 4. A top 4 in on the cards, and they are good for at least 1 if not 2 home games in the playoffs... Can they go 1 better than last season though and make it to the big game?

Fort Richardson Redskins
I jumped on their bandwagon last season and thought they'd go all the way. Without the Back Yard Boys around though, who will they fight? Probably not themselves, given the low player turnover... although one noticeable addition is a shiny new MLB Orangello Bouderaux... Their high-powered offence will take them to the playoffs and who knows about beyond... I will wait until they've played though before I decide whether I like them to take it all though...

Birmingham Beavers
Staners team are a good sort and improved well last season to come close to getting into the top 4 and homefield advantage in the playoffs... A strong line captained by Turn Stile will protect Para B00n all day long and get the Beavers securely into the post season... I feel they will still be with us next season though... Greatness is close but they're not there yet.

Albuquerque Isotopes
I still can't spell Albuquerque... They upset the Skulls but couldn't maintain the form to reach the end of the playoffs. They are a strong side and have been under-rated by many for a good while now (including myself). The game against the Skulls foreshadows a strong season for the Topes... But cracking the top 4 could be tough.

San Antonio Gunslingers
Last season was an unmitigated disaster for the Gunslingers especially after their fantastic LB play in the inaugural season... They should fare much better this season although I think they may have lost a couple of players... Should have the strength to make the playoffs this season, but I am hesitant to back them following last season.

36
Las Vegas Aces
New Logo... Same Team. And that is a major positive for this outfit... They were mightily impressive last season following a quiet opening year... The levels may not be so high but this team work hard and must game plan brilliantly. I think playoffs are likely... Progression past a side like the Skulls or Rahls though would be tough.

Atomic Wedgies
A consistent side that often sits securely in the playoffs but doesn't draw attention to itself. Likely to quietly but confidently make the playoffs on the back of an excellent Offensive Line but once there will graciously bow out...

Fort Worth Aggies
Were the Birmingham Beavers of the lower half of the table last season. They had a tough first season but last year showed massive improvement. They will be reasonable again this season, but I think the playoffs will have to wait until at least next season.

Miami Breakers
I expected more from them last season to be honest... And they did perform ok, but didn't come close to the playoffs I thought they could have made... Unless they sign some players soon, it could be a long season as they are short in depth and high on inactives where it counts...

Austin Extreme
The unknown quantity... I think they will be shocked at how tough BBB#5 actually is and will struggle to climb back towards the dizzying heights of A#3 just yet. They haven't burst in here proclaiming that they are the be all and end all and that they will be going straight back up, so a little reservation and humility will go along way in this league and I'm sure they will be readily accepted into our fold.

Raleigh Fighting Tigers
My beloved Tigers... Woo!!! We had a tough first season but many of our players stuck together and gave ourselves an outside shot at the playoffs last year with an upset of the Isotopes (have I mentioned that again? just shows how highly I regard the Topes) but fell just short. I know we are hungry for our first playoff appearance and have stuck together and grown as a team... I think we will improve on last season, will we step up enough to hit the playoffs? It's not for me to say...

33
Ditka's Army
Everyone was rooting for this team last season (when they weren't against their own team obviously...) They are still re-building but should pick up a couple of wins this season to keep them going and fighting to get back to the A leagues a few seasons down the line

Death Valley Vikings
The former Oregon Ducks have their first full season together under new ownership and are looking pretty healthy for a team that has been re-built over such a short time... No playoffs yet this year, but within a season or two they'll definitely be pushing for them...

24
St Louis Lowriders
What Miami lack in depth, St Louis lack it tenfold... They can't field an offence at the moment and unless they have some moves lined up they could be in trouble... They have strength at DT and LB, and a decent RB... but that won't be enough with no other players to support them.

9
PECOTA All-Stars
I wish the new owner the best of luck as this is a project that will take some time to return to former glory. In our first year, the All-Stars were a powerhouse... now, who knows where they're headed... This should be treated as a building season and the players and owner should stick at it. My money is on the remaining studs of Lanny McDonald (DE) and Reynard Broxx (CB) to leave on Day 1 of the season and to leave a very uphill struggle...

This originally started as a list of numbers, but it just grew. This is all based on opinion and memory and a quick look over rosters... No offence was intended to any of the teams. Roll on game 1!

lol, great stuff and really fun to read.

Agree with your evaluation of my Beavers. All being well we should make the playoffs again this season if we play to our potential, but I think you are right, we are still 2 or 3 players away from really being a favourite to go all the way.

Sad to see a couple of teams have been shredded of depth, but good luck to everyone.

The new AI tactics could add a wildcard element to matters.

how are the topes so low?

They aren't in order, except grouped by overall rating. They are joint second in rating.

If it was in order, Aces and Wedgies would be above Gunslingers etc...

Just grouped by rating for interest then my opinion of this season...

We have to earn it Kevin! We made it to the final four in the West, but were still only the 8th seed. I feel our team is greatly improved, but we'll just have to wait and see!

I started to write one for the east, but realized how bad it would make the west look, so I thought better of it.

The overall ratings have changed vastly already with a couple of teams jumping to 39 (Aggies anyone?? :O) and others have dipped (Gunslingers, being crafty, trying to fly in under the radar)

Great reading. This is a great group of teams to be part of. It seems we are always adding something new to make this even league even more exciting to be part of.

Season (Day 1)

42
Minnesota Skulls
The streak hits 33 and the Skulls roll on... can anyone beat them in the regular season... It's possible, but not looking likely yet. The Wedgies did well this game with 2 4th quarter touchdowns stretching the game beyond their reach. WR Big Bomb didn't get any TDs but was Minnesotas top player with this (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=94496&pbp_id=973128 ) 42 catch-and-run that led to WR Willie Catcher getting the first of the Skulls 4th quarter TDs. Catcher then showed some heads-up play to add the Skulls 2nd TD (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=94496&pbp_id=974624 )

San Antonio Rahls +3
The Rahls are the favourites to upset the Skulls and showed why from the start of their first game scoring on their first 3 drives, a 75 yard pass (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=94431&pbp_id=976885 ), a great ST play by Andruw Jones (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=94431&pbp_id=977220 ) and an 85-yard rush http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=94431&pbp_id=977538 ). The Rahls cruised home from there and look very strong again this season.

Fort Richardson Redskins +3
The Redskins offence looks just as potent this season as it did last year... If not more... The team was led by 2 RB's Thundering Beast (19 car, 98.5 yds, 1 TD) and Joe "Fastest Man" Jefferson (15 car, 96 yds, 2 TDs) whilst both hauled in multiple receptions (5 and 8 respectively). A dual threat indeed. Could it lead to Championship glory? Firstly, could it upset the Rahls or Skulls?

Birmingham Beavers +3
The Beavers started the season with a straightforward game against the re-building Lowriders... Parab00n rattled off 3 quick TDs in the first half and then sat down to allow the second string to take snaps. The Beavers scoring slowed considerably but this use of their depth in these game is bound to help them in the games that truly matter later in the season.

San Antonio Gunslingers +3
San Antonio "B" look to be recovering from a poor second season and spanked the Vikings silly. The Gunslingers may have had a late boost-take it slow apporach last year to shoot for the top this year, I don't know, I don't follow them that closely but I don't think so. Highlights were the exceptional QB play of Matt Weston (20/29 215yds 3 TDs 0 INT), helped by Pro Bowl return man James Curbo (10 rec, 97 yds, 1 TD) and Pembrooke Sunspire who had a great 1-play TD from their own 20 (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=94446&pbp_id=968700 )

39

Albuquerque Isotopes
Go Topes! They sit atop the league after welcoming the Java Monkeys to the league. The Topes have a similar dual-threat HB system as the Redskins with Rohn Jiggins (26 car, 278 yds, 10.7 avg 5 TDs, 15 BkTck) and Thomas Roden (20 car, 192 yds, 9.6 avg, 3 TDs, 19 BkTck) leading the team to 525.5 yards rushing on the day. Highlights are numerous, including a 42 point 1st quarter. The Topes will look to continue this form into games against tougher competition... Playoffs still look very likely for this hard-to-spell team.

Las Vegas Aces +3
Last season's most improved team starts off the season well with a go win against their first ever BBB #5 opposition, the Tigers. The Aces leapt out to a 16-0 lead but were hauled back in by the Tigers, who levelled it with a FG from the 1 yard line before the Aces scored again in the 4th to secure the victory. Ironhead Cambell, showed that it truly is the year of the Power-back with 22 Broken tackles on 17 carries, and should expect more workload next game to improve on his 71 yards rushing. Playoff repeat is still on the cards .

Atomic Wedgies +3
0-1, but the Skulls are out the way so who cares? Made a very good account of themselves having the score level at 10-10 before the regular season specialists pulled away. No real stand-out performances of note, but that's just what we should expect of the Wedgies now. Quiet and unassuming, but always there or thereabouts at the end of the season, comfortably nestled in the playoffs.

Fort Worth Aggies +3
The Aggies have improved in leaps and bounds but didn't get to show it vs. the mighty Rahls. The Aggies still look to have continued their year on year improvement... My prediction though? This team will be the next team to change hands this season...

Raleigh Fighting Tigers +3
Not the best start to the season, going down 16-0, but showed good resilience to bring it back to 16 all. An improved team from last season but couldn't quiet overturn the Aces. It is still going to be on the knife-edge whether this team makes the playoffs or just misses out again. The BBB#5 sure is tough.

36

Miami Breakers
Breakers played the improving Ditka's Army but were comfortable on the way to victory, 10 points in each of the 1st 2 quarters let them coast to the end. Great play by Kimo Kiwi, gives the Miami faithful something to look forward to this season. He finished with 8 grabs for 151.5 yds including a 83 yard TD (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=94515&pbp_id=976905 ) although he was aided by some questionable defensive play-calling...

Austin Extreme
Xtreme!! Xtreme to the Max... Well not yet... Quiet week against a strong Redskins team. Koboh and Kobo Wrath give the team hope for future games with play like this (http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=94473&pbp_id=972055 ). Don't see a 3 agent roster improving that much over time though...

Ditka's Army +3
Improving but not there yet... They would have probably hoped to have the Breakers later in the season to have a real crack at them. However, the game is gone now and they must keep looking forwards. Everyone wants to see them come through this re-building process with the same ownership and core of players.

Death Valley Vikings +3
Tough game to start the year vs. a re-vitalised San Antonio Gunslingers... 18 tackles and 2 FFum from SS Dawg Schroeder was the only real highlight of their day though. Doesn't bode well for the season though if he's having to do all the work.

33
St Louis Lowriders +9
They still need some offence, but they're getting there. Beavers game is something to ignore... The Beavers coasted against them after scoring early. At least they have a Java Monkeys game to look forward to for competitiveness if they can't fill out their roster some more before then. They're fighting though, still fighting...

27
Java Monkeys +18
Wow... Welcome to BBB#5. Not much to say but chin up, keep recruiting and good luck.

This originally started as a list of numbers, but it just grew. This is all based on opinion and memory and a quick look over rosters... No offence was intended to any of the teams. Roll on game 2!

Tell me about it..I think the first 20 players I tried recruiting were offered contracts from the Albequerque Isotopes instead of Albuquerque..it's still tough!

It was an interesting write-up. Although I don't like the fact that it even mentioned the Wedgies. You can't be inconspicuous if people are talking about you.
