Recently the DC of my team has informed me that I will be playing ROLB this season, (backup for both OLB last season). He has done this mainly due to my build, which has 42 speed, 27 agility, 29 strength, and 26 vision, 30 tackling, and 13 blocking. He told me that I should be pumping my next skill points into the pass rusher tree (which I never put anything into). Also that I should raise my strength and blocking ASAP.

The problem is, mostly, that I am not a big believer in SAs on LBs. I have read some threads on it, and concluded that they are relatively ineffective. I only have 1 point in the first 3 things of the hard hitter tree. My DC makes it sound like it is a necessity to put the points into pass rusher. I really have no faith in it, the only thing that would seem a benefit is shed block, the rest seem lame.

Before he gave me the advice, I was going to soft cap my speed, then commit to agility and vision. I was also going to maybe dedicate an entire level to strength at some point.

Anyway, how effective are the SAs in pass rusher, from your expierence, and what do you think would be key in building a ROLB.

I would get my speed up to the soft-cap and put all equipment into speed. Then get agility to soft-cap. Next, I would add strength as I noticed my ROLB started getting sacks once strength was around 40. If your vision is low I would train it otherwise you could work on it along with strength. I haven't touched my SA in a long time as there is just too many attributes that a LB needs to be good in.

That is my point, I would rather get down the main stats, and if I am finally satisfied there, start putting some into shed block.

You're on the right track with capping speed/agility/vision. I think as an ROLB and the nerfs taking place this upcoming season, agility will prove to be the necessary attribute for pass rushing LBers. Depending on how far you wanna go with strength, i'd wait it out and cap S/A/V first. Then, when you invest in strength... up the shed block.

Another route to take with the ROLB is the demoralizer. He covers the QB mainly, and 'The Glare' + 'Trash Talk' interact with confidence to demoralize him. I am personally taking this route and have 3-3 in each SA. I dont feel like disclosing my confidence.

Also, since you'll be reverting to the pass rushing tree from now on (which i do recommend.. all you needed was aura of int) i'd recommend training on jumping. Jumping is an underrated attribute that allows us LB's to jump extra and finish on a tackle. In conjuction with diving tackle, this combination can make up for the ROLB's pursuit of pass rushing.

Goodluck with your progress, and choose wisely how you want to shape your LB. There are many paths you can take to maximize your ROLB potential.

do not put anything in blocking it does nothing for a lb. your owner is a moron if he wants more blocking.

Anyone else want to elaborate on this? Very curious...

Well I agree I wouldn't put anything into the SA's just yet, not until the higher levels. I would get speed to the soft cap, then agility, then strength...which is what carbene said.

my level 12 LB
Strength: 19.64 Blocking: 12.75
Speed: 55.75 Tackling: 25.07
Agility: 40.64 Throwing: 8
Jumping: 12.75 Catching: 12.75
Stamina: 26.36 Carrying: 10
Vision: 19.49 Kicking: 8
Confidence: 17.64 Punting: 9

nice build so far. i'd either cap speed/agil or start working on vision.

I plan on agility next, because they say that speed doesn't really hit it's full potential with agility lagging behind it...

Yeah, stay away from blocking. There are more important things for a ROLB; speed, agility, vision, and strength.

Your DC is responsible for developing your team's overall defensive scheme and ensuring that players develop in ways that support it. Players are responsible for taking the DC's advice on board if they are to fit into that scheme.

Based on that advice (blocking and SAs for a mid-level LB), I'd be looking for a positive trade situation... perhaps LB-for-LB with a guy who is in love with LB SAs. That development plan will ruin your LB.

Blocking will only give a very small increase to your ability to shed blocks. Those points (including training) are better spent on your core attributes that will make you a better LB, not a lineman. Blocking was the craze for about half a season before people started figuring that it really wasn't worth the effort put into it and to put those points into strength or vision where it will really pay off.

Yeah, but I am the GM for that team too, and I would just not do that build scheme than. I will was only considering doing SAs into shed block though...the rest seem so pointless (not a fan on the confidence ones).

I see 5 LB positions. Which ones are used depending on which D is played?
