Has anyone tried this? What are the benefits? Drawbacks? I'm thinking about converting a DT into a DE.

My owner has played me as the backup DE and I've been successful, so if you just build the player to be able to pass rush he can play both positions effectively. My guy has even dropped back in coverage and done well. 2 picks!!!

so there's no penalties?
I mean my DT isn't the fastest guy; but he has 30 speed so he's not slow-- I'm just concerned with pwning the ROT/LOT.

DT would be too slow for RDE (plus theres the lack of tunnel vision and first step), but LDE could work if they have good strong base/shed block.

well i'm planning on being a run stopping D-Line. As long as we stuff the lanes and get the TFLs, then I'm happy with that.

I believe there is a penalty, but I don't think it's big enough to matter, assuming you have a build that suits it. Heck one of the teams I'm on had the roster for 3-4 (Just 2 DTs, 3 DEs but a lot of LBs), and so played a DE at DT and LBs at RDE for the whole season and performed well.

Wouldn't they have to change that when they bring in the 3-4? The penalty I mean, there are many NFL teams with DTs playing in the DE position in this defense

I've been playing LDE, so this could make sense.

My DT has played as backup to the LE this season and done well enough. The trade off of speed vs strength doesn't seem to left him exposed.
